Chapter 3: The Secret in the Vault

To fight a corporate empire, Victoria needed an un-bribable ally. That evening, she drove to a secluded brownstone in Brooklyn to meet Alexander Vance—the city’s most brilliant and ruthless forensic accountant, a man who had dedicated his career to taking down corrupt financial cartels.
"Thomas Harper didn't just steal a baby, Victoria," Alexander said, scrolling through a highly encrypted data stream on his multi-screen setup. "He used your daughter as a financial instrument. Look at these ledger entries from eight years ago."
Victoria leaned closer, her eyes scanning the complex transactional lines.
The Thomas Legacy Trust — Secret Clause
The Shell Asset: A logistics entity named E.V. Shipping, valued at $45 million, was quietly established by Thomas Harper in 2018.
The Proxy Shareholder: The sole owner listed on the Swiss registration documents is Emily Thomas—the real identity given to Victoria's stolen daughter.
The Exploitation: Thomas kept the real Emily isolated in a remote estate upstate, forcing her to sign corporate authorizations while using Julianna as a public decoy in Manhattan to maintain access to the primary Harper Trust.
"He split her identity," Victoria whispered, horror dawning on her. "He kept the real Emily hidden to sign off on illegal offshore shipping routes, while using a fake Emily to inherit my fortune."
"Exactly," Alexander nodded grimly. "And eight years ago, when the real Emily became pregnant with Emma, she realized what Thomas was doing. She tried to escape with the baby. Thomas caught her, took her back to the upstate facility, but Emily managed to hide the infant in that alleyway before she was captured. That is how Grandma Rose found Emma."
"Where is she, Alexander?" Victoria begged, her hands trembling as she clutched the desk. "Where is my daughter right now?"
Alexander tapped a final key. A high-resolution satellite map zoomed in on a heavily guarded estate hidden deep within the forests of New York's Hudson Valley.

"The title of this property belongs to a shell company controlled by Julianna’s biological family," Alexander revealed. "The perimeter is secured with private motion sensors. But tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM, Thomas is hosting a mandatory shareholder meeting at the Harper Headquarters to vote you out of the company due to 'mental incompetence.' He thinks you'll be there to defend yourself."
Victoria looked at the map, a cold, unbreakable resolve settling into her chest. "He thinks I care about the company. He thinks I care about the money. Alexander, coordinate with the state police. We aren't going to the board meeting tomorrow. We are going to bring my daughter home."
