Chapter 5 - The War for the Heirs

The estate erupted into a controlled, lethal chaos.
"Get Elena and the boys to the sub-basement vault now!" Dominic barked, his voice instantly transforming back into the cold commander of the Caruso syndicate. He flipped his wheelchair’s speed control back to maximum.
"Dominic, no!" Elena screamed as Marcus grabbed her arm, pulling her toward the hidden elevator in the hallway. "Come with us!"
"The vault control panel can only be operated from the main security room if the power lines are cut," Dominic said, his silver-gray eyes locked onto hers with a fierce, burning finality. "Go, Elena. Protect our sons. I will hold the line."
Within seconds, Elena was pushed into the reinforced elevator, her arms wrapped tightly around a crying Leo and Lucas as the doors slid shut.
Upstairs, the glass windows of the grand foyer shattered as flashbangs and automatic gunfire tore through the night. Viktor Petrov had invested millions into this hit, bringing thirty heavily armed mercenaries to wipe out the Caruso family once and for all.
Dominic rolled his chair into the central security hub, a reinforced room behind the library. The monitors showed his men engaging the invaders on the front lawn, muzzle flashes illuminating the dark Lake Forest night.
"Boss, they've breached the south terrace," a security guard yelled over the static of the comms. "They have heavy ordinances!"
Dominic didn't panic. He accessed the estate's central defense grid on his console. For three years, he had prepared for the day his enemies would try to trap him in his own home. He had designed this house to be a tomb for anyone who entered without his permission.
He tapped a sequence on the keyboard.
"Marcus," Dominic said into his headset. "Get your men behind the reinforced steel doors in the western corridor. Now."
"Boss? What are you doing?"
"Just do it."
As soon as his men were clear, Dominic slammed his hand onto the red detonation sequence.
The entire south terrace and front lawn exploded in a synchronized detonation of claymore mines buried beneath the gravel and turf. The shockwave rattled the stone foundation of the mansion. On the monitors, the invading mercenary force was instantly cut in half, their advance shattered by the brutal efficiency of Dominic's trap.
But the danger wasn't over.
The door to the security hub hissed open. Dominic spun his chair around.
Standing in the doorway was Viktor Petrov himself, his tailored overcoat covered in plaster dust, a silver suppressed pistol leveled directly at Dominic’s chest. Two of his remaining men stood behind him, their rifles pointed forward.
"Dominic," Petrov sneered, his thick Russian accent dripping with venomous satisfaction. "Look at you. The great Dominic Caruso, trapped in a rolling toy. You killed my men, but you are out of tricks. Where is the girl? Where are the two little bastards my men spotted in Milwaukee?"
Dominic didn't flinch. He rested his gloved hands on the armrests of his chair, looking at Petrov with a cold, mocking amusement that made the Russian billionaire hesitate.
"You think I'm out of tricks, Viktor?" Dominic asked softly. "You came into my house. You threatened my woman. You threatened my sons."
Dominic’s thumb subtly pressed a small button hidden beneath the underside of his left armrest.
"In my world," Dominic whispered, his silver-gray eyes flashing with a terrifying, lethal light, "that carries a mandatory death sentence."
Before Petrov could pull the trigger, the ceiling panels above the doorway dropped open. Two automated defense turrets, linked directly to Dominic’s manual armrest override, opened fire with a deafening, synchronized roar.
Petrov and his two men didn't even have time to scream. They were cut down in a fraction of a second, their bodies collapsing onto the polished marble floor of the library.
The security hub fell silent again, save for the hum of the electric chair and the smell of gunpowder.

Dominic slowly rolled his chair forward, navigating past the fallen bodies of his enemies. He looked out the shattered window at the burning lawn. The war was over. The Bratva was broken. His family was safe.
He picked up his radio. "Marcus. Clear the halls. Bring my family up."
