Chapter 6 - A PROMISE IN THE SUNLIGHTOne year later.

The warm Mediterranean breeze rustled the olive trees on the cliffside terrace of our private villa in Sicily.
Below us, the sparkling blue waters of the ocean stretched out to the horizon under a clear, cloudless sky. The scent of blooming jasmine and citrus filled the afternoon air.
I sat on a plush lounge chair under a wide white umbrella, holding a six-month-old baby girl dressed in a soft pink cotton sundress.
Her name was Lily.
Six months ago, through a private adoption agency funded entirely by Lorenzo, we had adopted a tiny newborn orphan girl whose mother had passed away during childbirth in a regional clinic—a girl whom I named after the daughter I had lost, giving her the life, the home, and the love she deserved.
A few feet away on the soft grass, fourteen-month-old Leo was toddling around on his chubby legs, chasing a golden retriever puppy, laughing loudly as he tumbled onto the grass.
"Careful, little Don!" Gino’s voice laughed from the patio edge, where he stood discreetly in a linen suit, watching over the perimeter.
Lorenzo walked out from the villa, wearing a simple white linen shirt and dark trousers, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and sliced peaches. He set the tray down on the wooden table, walked over to Leo, scooped the laughing boy into his arms, and tossed him gently into the air before hugging him tightly.
"Daddy!" Leo squeaked, wrapping his arms around Lorenzo’s neck.
Lorenzo kissed his son's forehead, then walked over to my lounge chair, sitting down beside me. He set Leo on his lap and reached over to gently touch baby Lily’s soft cheek.
"She looks just like you today," Lorenzo smiled softly, his hazel eyes filled with an overwhelming warmth that still took my breath away every single day.
"She has your stubbornness," I teased, leaning over to kiss his cheek. "She refused to sleep until she saw her father."
Lorenzo chuckled, leaning in to press a deep, loving kiss onto my lips—a kiss that tasted like sweet peaches and eternal security.
"How is the business in New York?" I asked as we watched the kids play on the blanket together.
"Legitimate," Lorenzo answered, resting his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close against his side. "The transition is complete. The Rossi Group is officially a legitimate real estate and international shipping conglomerate. The old street trades are gone. I promised you a clean life for our children, Elena. And I keep my promises."
I looked at him—the fierce mafia Don who had turned his entire empire upside down just to give me a safe, peaceful life.
"You gave me everything, Lorenzo," I whispered, resting my head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, strong heartbeat beneath his shirt. "You gave me a home. A son. A daughter. A future."
Lorenzo held me tighter, looking out over the endless blue ocean, his hand resting over mine.
"You gave me a reason to breathe, Elena," Lorenzo said softly, his voice thick with unyielding love. "The night you stepped into that nursery, you thought you were saving my son. But the truth is... you saved us both."

Sunlight danced over the ocean waves as Leo’s joyful laughter echoed across the cliffside terrace, mixing with the gentle murmur of the wind.
The darkness of our pasts had finally burned away, leaving behind a family built not on fear or blood, but on an unbreakable promise of love.
