Chapter 3 - THE SIEGE OF ROSSI MANORLorenzo didn't panic. He moved with an eerie, calculated grace.

In less than ten seconds, he pulled a tactical vest over his dress shirt, strapped two sidearms to his thighs, and pulled a heavy automatic rifle from a hidden panel behind the mahogany wardrobe.
"Gino," Lorenzo spoke into his shoulder mic, his voice rock steady. "Activate the estate lockdown protocol. Lower the iron shutters on levels one and two. Do not engage until they breach the courtyard."
"Understood, Don. What about the girl and the baby?"
"They are in the safe room behind the master suite," Lorenzo commanded. "If a single bullet crosses that threshold, I will skin Julian alive myself."
Lorenzo turned to me. He grabbed my arm gently, leading me toward a hidden seam in the oak-paneled wall behind the bed. He pressed his palm against a biometric scanner, and a massive steel door slid open, revealing a brightly lit, luxurious underground safe room equipped with medical supplies, food, and security monitors.
"Go inside, Elena," Lorenzo ordered, his hands cupping my face. "Take Leo. Do not open this door for anyone except me or Gino. Do you understand?"
"Lorenzo..." I gasped, my hands gripping his tactical vest. The thought of him going out there into a hail of bullets made a sudden, terrifying panic surge through my chest. "Please... be careful."
Lorenzo froze, his eyes softening as he looked down at my hands clutching his chest. A faint, wicked smile touched his lips—the smile of a predator who had just found a reason to live.
"Are you worrying about a mafia boss, sweet Elena?" he asked softly.
"I'm worrying about Leo’s father," I corrected, my cheeks flushing warm. "He needs you. And... and I can't lose another person."
Lorenzo leaned down, pressing his forehead against mine. The heat of his breath washed over my lips.
"I won't die," Lorenzo promised, his voice thick with an unyielding vow. "I have a son to raise. And a mother to protect."
He gently pushed me inside the safe room, picked up Leo’s bassinet, and set it beside me.
"Lock it," Lorenzo commanded as the heavy steel door began to slide shut.
The door sealed with an airtight HISS, cutting off the outside world.
I sat on the plush leather sofa inside the safe room, holding Leo against my chest as he began to squirm. Through the high-definition security monitors on the wall, I watched the war unfold outside.
The Rossi Estate turned into a fortress of death.
Massive steel shutters slammed down over every window in the mansion. Outside in the pouring rain, six black SUVs rammed through the iron front gates. Men in black tactical gear poured out, weapons blazing.
Then Lorenzo stepped onto the second-floor balcony.
He looked like an ancient god of war. He didn't hide behind cover. Standing tall against the dark rain, he raised his rifle and unleashed a terrifying barrage of gunfire. Every shot was lethal, precise, and absolute. Beside him, Gino and ten elite Rossi guards held the perimeter, turning the courtyard into a graveyard for Julian’s men.
On the central monitor, I saw a silver Mercedes pull up behind the attacking vehicles. A man with dark slicked-back hair—Julian Rossi—stepped out, holding a rocket-propelled grenade launcher aimed directly at the mansion’s front doors.
"No!" I gasped, clutching Leo closer.
Julian raised the launcher.
Before he could pull the trigger, a dark shadow leaped from the second-floor balcony, landing directly on top of Julian’s hood with a crushing metallic thud.
It was Lorenzo.
The video feed glitched for three second as rain splattered across the lens. When the picture cleared, Lorenzo had Julian pinned against the hood of the Mercedes by his throat. The attack was over. Julian’s surviving men were on their knees in the mud, hands behind their heads, surrounded by Gino’s squad.
Lorenzo pulled his sidearm, pressing the barrel directly against his brother’s forehead.
Julian was screaming, pleading, crying in the rain, his hands raised in surrender.
On the screen, Lorenzo looked up at the security camera mounted above the main entrance—the camera he knew was broadcasting directly to the safe room monitor.
He looked straight into the lens. Straight into my eyes.
He didn't pull the trigger.
Instead, Lorenzo lowered the gun, struck Julian across the temple with the heavy steel handle, knocking him unconscious, and gestured for Gino to drag him toward the basement dungeons.
Lorenzo had spared his brother’s life—not out of mercy, but because he had remembered my plea in the nursery: Don't kill in front of the family.
Ten minutes later, the safe room door hissed open.
Lorenzo stood in the doorway. His face was splashed with rain and blood, his chest heaving, his dark hair damp against his forehead. He looked wild, dangerous, and completely lethal.
He walked into the room, dropped his empty rifle onto the floor, and stopped right in front of me.
"It's done," Lorenzo said, his voice raspy. "The house is secure."
I stood up slowly, holding Leo in one arm. With my free hand, I reached up and wiped a streak of blood from Lorenzo’s cheekbone.
"You came back," I whispered.
May you like
"I told you I would," Lorenzo replied, his eyes dropping to my lips.
Before I could breathe, Lorenzo reached out, pulled me firmly against his chest, and lowered his mouth to mine.
