Chapter 6 - Sunrise at Willow Creek

Six months later, the Kentucky landscape had transformed from barren winter frost into rolling waves of lush, vibrant emerald green.
The heavy iron gates of Willow Creek Ranch stood wide open, welcoming the morning sun.
Inside the grand sunroom overlooking the gardens, three little girls were learning how to crawl across a thick Persian rug. Sophie laughed, clapping her hands together as Lily chased a yellow rattle across the floor. Grace, the smallest, sat safely in the center, her fingers curled around the silver chain of a familiar ruby pendant resting securely on her mother’s neck.
Emma Carter—now Emma Whitmore—stood by the tall glass windows, holding a cup of fresh coffee while a warm breeze drifted in from the lake.
Strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, and a familiar chin rested gently on her shoulder.
“You’re quiet this morning, Mrs. Whitmore,” Daniel whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her temple.
Emma smiled, leaning back against his chest as she watched the sun sparkle across the water. “Just thinking about how far we’ve come from a diner on Maple Street and a freezing barn in the middle of the night.”
“You mean the night you broke into my life and ruined every orderly, miserable plan I had?” Daniel teased, tightening his embrace.

“I told you,” Emma laughed softly, turning in his arms to wrap her hands around his neck. “I’m very good at following interesting paths.”
Outside, the horses grazed peacefully in the sun, the estate flourished under honest management, and inside the house, the laughter of children echoed through rooms that would never be cold or lonely again.
