Chapter 2 - The Triplet Miracle

Two weeks after the confrontation in Beverly Hills, the world looked entirely different. I was no longer living in the shadow of the Montgomery family's cruelty. I was ensconced in the private, heavily secured Sterling estate in Malibu, surrounded by the finest medical specialists my father's billions could secure.

I lay on the examination table, the cool ultrasound gel covering my stomach. My father sat in the chair beside me, holding my hand tightly.

"Alright, Mariana," Dr. Karen Vance smiled, adjusting the transducer probe. "Let's take a look at the results of your recent hormone therapy and see how the pregnancy is progressing after the endometriosis clearing."

The monitor flickered to life. A rhythmic, rapid thumping sound filled the room—the beautiful, chaotic music of a new heartbeat.

"There's the first one," Dr. Vance said, clicking the screen.

Then she paused. Her brow furrowed, and she moved the probe slightly to the left. Another distinct, rapid heartbeat filled the audio monitor.

"Oh, my," Dr. Vance whispered, a look of pure astonishment crossing her face. "Mariana... look here."

She shifted the probe one more time. A third, perfectly clear heartbeat joined the chorus.

"Triplets," Dr. Vance gasped, looking up from the monitor with wide eyes. "You aren't just pregnant, Mariana. You are carrying triplets. Two boys and a girl. Because your endometriosis was finally cleared, your body hyper-ovulated. It's a medical miracle."

I burst into tears, burying my face in my father's shoulder. Arthur held me close, his own eyes shining with uncharacteristic moisture. For eleven years, I had been branded a failure, a broken vessel, an incomplete woman. And all the while, my body was just waiting for the right care, the right love, and the right time.

"They will never know want, Mariana," Arthur promised fiercely, kissing the top of my head. "And as for the man who called you a failure... his countdown has officially begun."
