Chapter 10 - The Unstained Horizon

Three months passed.
The Moretti crime syndicate was completely dismantled by the federal government, their properties seized, and their leadership sentenced to life in prison without parole.
It was a beautiful, crisp morning in Manhattan. Clara Vance stood in the center of a gorgeous, sun-drenched architectural firm on Park Avenue—a firm she now co-owned, fully funded by the Castellano Foundation’s urban renewal initiative. Her hands were fully healed, her knuckles smooth, the paled hook scar on her thumb now a symbol of survival rather than shame.
The heavy glass doors of her office opened, and Leo Castellano walked in. He wasn't wearing his heavy mafia overcoat or carrying his silver cane. He wore a simple, perfectly tailored casual suit, a massive bouquet of fresh, vibrant white roses in his arm.
"The grout looks very clean in here, Miss Vance," Leo smiled, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a profound, unshakeable warmth.
Clara laughed, a beautiful, clear sound that filled the room. She walked out from behind her desk, stepping directly into his arms and wrapping her hands around his neck.

"I used club soda and salt, Mr. Castellano," she whispered, leaning up to kiss his cheek. "Just like a professional told me to."
Leo pulled her close against his chest, holding her with a gentleness that completely erased the fearsome reputation of his name. He had spent his entire life controlling a city built on shadows, but as he looked out the window at the beautiful, bright Manhattan horizon with Clara beside him, he knew that his life hadn't been ruined on that cold winter night in the restaurant corridor. It had finally, beautifully begun.
