Chapter 6 - The Quiet House

One year later.

The spring sun was warm over the Long Island estate. The maple trees were thick with vibrant green leaves, and the air smelled of blooming jasmine and fresh lawn grass.

On the manicured lawn behind the main terrace, a large birthday tent had been set up, decorated with yellow balloons and white flower garlands.

It was Lily’s fourth birthday.

Sitting under the shade of a white umbrella was four-year-old Lily, wearing a yellow summer dress, happily opening a large box filled with wooden toy blocks.

Beside her, resting comfortably on a soft wool blanket, was Bruno.

The old mastiff was nine now. His arthritis had improved significantly thanks to new physical therapy treatments, and he looked healthier and happier than he had in years. He wore a tiny party hat tied loosely around his broad head, snoring softly as Lily patted his shoulder.

Walking out onto the lawn carrying a large strawberry cake was Elena.

She looked radiant. Her dark hair was styled in soft waves, her eyes bright with happiness, wearing a simple, elegant blue linen dress. She set the cake on the wooden party table, smiling warmly as Lily clapped her hands in excitement.

Adrian walked up behind Elena, wrapping his arms gently around her waist and pulling her back against his chest.

Elena leaned her head back against his shoulder, placing her hands over his. "She loves the party, Adrian. You didn't have to do all this."

"She deserves it," Adrian whispered into her hair, pressing a gentle kiss against her temple. "And so do you."

Over the past year, the Moretti estate had transformed completely.

The cold, silent house of stone was now filled with music, laughter, and the joyful sound of children’s footsteps running down the long hallways.

Vivienne and her family were gone—their influence in New York completely erased, their empire absorbed quietly by Adrian’s firm, lawful management. The Long Island docks were thriving, generating legal wealth that funded children's hospitals and community programs across the city.

Adrian looked down at his watch.

"Marco just called," Adrian noted softly. "Lorenzo sent his monthly report from the upstate farm. He cleared three barns yesterday."

Elena let out a soft laugh, turning in his arms to look up at his dark, handsome face. "Are you ever going to let him come back?"

"No," Adrian said with a quiet, decisive smile. "He’s much better suited for shoveling manure."

Lily ran over to them, grabbing Adrian’s hand with her small, cake-smeared fingers. "Mr. Adrian! Come blow out the candles with me! Bruno wants cake too!"

Adrian laughed—a deep, rich sound that echoed across the sunny lawn—and let the little girl pull him toward the table.

He looked at Elena, who was standing beside him with love shining in her dark eyes. He looked at Bruno, who gave a happy, deep bark from his blanket. And he looked at Lily, whose small hands were holding his tightly.

The man who had once ruled through cold silence had finally found his voice.

And in the quiet house by the sea, the Moretti family was finally whole.
