Chapter 6 - Sunrise on the Harbor

The first rays of golden November sunlight broke over the Boston harbor, casting a brilliant, warm glow across the sprawling stone terraces of the Moretti estate. The storm of the previous night had completely cleared, leaving behind crisp air, wet cobblestones, and a sense of absolute renewal.

Inside the grand gallery, a restoration crew was already at work repairing the frame of the grandfather’s portrait. The white paint had been thoroughly scrubbed from the Italian marble floors, leaving the grand hall looking as pristine and untouchable as it had for a century.

Outside in the manicured gardens, Rosa Moretti sat beneath a wrought-iron gazebo, sipping espresso and reviewing the morning papers with undisguised glee. The front-page headline of the Boston Globe read: FEDERAL RAID DISMANTLES VANCE CAPITAL; CORPORATE EMPIRE CRUMBLES OVERNIGHT.

Down on the private docks near the water, a fleet of twenty commercial container ships bearing the Moretti Logistics insignia sat gleaming in the morning sun, ready to set sail across the Atlantic.

Clara stood on the upper stone balcony, leaning against the wrought-iron railing. She wore a tailored cream-colored silk blouse and dark trousers—no longer a servant hiding in the shadows, but a woman standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the master of the estate.

Footsteps echoed softly behind her.

Damian stepped out onto the balcony, holding two cups of freshly brewed coffee. He handed one to her, his dark eyes warm as he looked out over the harbor.

“Federal prosecutors just confirmed that Marcus’s bail petition was denied,” Damian said quietly. “He’s facing twenty-5 years in a federal penitentiary. His assets are frozen, and the corporate restructuring committee has already voted to merge Vance Capital’s remaining logistics grid directly under Moretti Holdings.”

Clara took a sip of her coffee, letting the warmth spread through her chest. “And my father’s legacy?”

“Restored,” Damian said, turning to face her fully. “Under your name. Legally, properly, and permanently.”

Clara looked up at him, a genuine, beautiful smile breaking across her face—a smile that had been locked away behind years of fear and disguise.

“You know, for a dangerous mafia boss who runs Boston’s underworld, you’re surprisingly easy to work for,” she teased softly.

Damian reached out, gently catching a stray dark curl and tucking it behind her ear. His thumb brushed lightly against her cheekbone, right where the white paint had been scrubbed away the night before.

“You haven't seen my management style yet,” he murmured, his gaze dropping to her lips before rising back to meet her gray-blue eyes. “Starting today, you have a permanent office on the top floor of Moretti Tower. And you’re going to help me run every shipping lane from here to Europe.”

“Is that an order, Mr. Moretti?” she asked, tilting her chin up with playful defiance.

“It’s a partnership,” Damian replied, leaning down to press his lips softly against hers as the morning sun flooded the harbor with light. “And this time, it’s built to last.”
