Chapter 5 - The Reckoning at the Docks

The abandoned grain silo stood like a rusted giant against the black, raging waters of Lake Michigan. Snow swirled wildly through the broken steel girders as the wind howled like a dying beast.

Inside the main floor of the silo, fifteen-year-old Owen was tied to a wooden chair, a piece of heavy duct tape across his mouth. His face was pale, his eyes wide with horror as two armed thugs stood over him with shotguns.

A few yards away stood Leonard Carver and his daughter, Vanessa, wrapped in heavy fur coats.

“Is the contract ready?” Leonard asked his lawyer, who was holding a stack of legal documents.

“Yes, Mr. Carver. Once Vale signs these, all his maritime shipping hubs automatically transfer to your shell company.”

Vanessa checked her diamond watch, a cruel laugh escaping her lips. “Ten minutes left. I wonder if Adrian will actually show up for a maid’s little brother.”

Suddenly, the heavy iron doors of the silo didn't just open—they blew off their hinges with a deafening, thunderous explosion!

Blinding red smoke flooded the interior of the silo as flashbang grenades detonated in rapid succession.

Shouts of panic erupted from Carver’s thugs as they fired blindly into the smoke. But Adrian’s men moved like ghosts. Silent, lethal, and perfectly synchronized, they swept through the facility. Within ninety seconds, all twelve of Carver’s hired guards were neutralized, their weapons clattering onto the concrete floor.

The smoke cleared.

Adrian Vale walked through the destroyed entryway. He wore a long black coat, his gray eyes shining with an absolute, terrifying dominance. In his right hand, he held a dark steel pistol, raised with deadly precision.

Behind him walked Marcus, cutting Owen’s ropes and pulling the boy gently behind a line of tactical shields.

“Owen!” Marcus whispered. “You’re safe now, kid. Your sister is waiting for you.”

Owen nodded frantically, tears of relief pouring down his face as he was escorted safely out the back entrance.

Inside the silo, Leonard Carver fell to his knees, his hands trembling violently as he stared at the mountain of a man walking toward him. Vanessa backed away, tripping over a steel pipe and falling into the dirt, her expensive fur coat ruined.

“Adrian!” Leonard whimpered, raising his hands in surrender. “Please! It was a business negotiation! We weren't going to hurt the boy! We just wanted the routes!”

Adrian stopped three feet from Leonard. He didn't shout. He didn't display anger. He simply looked down at the sniveling man as if he were an insect on his shoe.

“You crossed the line, Leonard,” Adrian said, his voice echoing through the vast steel silo like a death knell. “You touched the only thing in this world that belongs to me.”

“Please! Take the four million! Take five million! I’ll give you everything!” Leonard begged, sobbing openly.

“The four million was for your debt,” Adrian said coldly, raising his weapon. “This... is for her tears.”

A single shot echoed through the storm outside.
