Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

One year later.
The morning sun rose over a quiet coastal town in Maine. The ocean waves crashed gently against the rocky shoreline, sending a cool, salty mist sweeping across the green cliffs.
Standing on the wooden porch of a beautiful white house overlooking the sea, Alessandro stood holding a mug of black coffee.
His hair was slightly longer now, touched with gray at the temples, but his face looked relaxed, the lines of constant tension and paranoia permanently erased. He no longer carried a pistol beneath his coat. He no longer checked every shadow for an assassin.
In the driveway below, Marco was helping unload fresh groceries from a station wagon, laughing with Lia as she carried a box of fresh vegetables toward the kitchen steps.
"Daddy Alessandro! Look what I found on the beach!"
A four-year-old Mia came running up the wooden steps of the porch, her small boots clacking loudly against the cedar planks. She was wearing a yellow raincoat, her dark curls bouncing in the ocean breeze, holding out a smooth, polished white sea stone in her small hands.
Alessandro dropped down to one knee, a genuine, warm smile breaking across his face—a smile that would have shocked anyone who had known him in New York a year ago.
"Let me see, Mia," Alessandro said gently, taking the smooth stone from her hands and examining it carefully. "This is a rare one. Perfect for the garden."
"It's soft like a clock!" Mia giggled, wrapping her small arms around his neck, hugging him tightly. "Mama said we are making blueberry pancakes today!"
"Blueberry pancakes sound like a good plan," Alessandro laughed softly, lifting her into his arms as he stood up.
He looked out across the vast, blue horizon of the Atlantic Ocean.
The blood, the violence, the betrayals, and the fortress of New York belonged to a lifetime that felt like a distant, faded nightmare. Here, on the quiet cliffs of Maine, surrounded by the people who had saved his soul, Alessandro Moretti had finally found what no amount of money or mafia power could ever buy.

He had found a home.
He kissed Mia’s forehead, turned around, and walked into the warm, bright house, closing the door softly behind them against the cool sea wind.
