Chapter 5 - The Heir Takes the Wheel

The private elevator ride to the helipad was the longest sixty seconds of my life.
The building’s alarms were silent, but the flashing red security lights in the elevator shaft told me the hotel was in complete lockdown. Outside, the sound of the helicopter blades chopping through the damp Boston air grew louder.
When the doors opened onto the rainy, windswept roof, three of Storm’s guards were already engaged in a firefight near the stairwell. The sharp crack-crack of suppressed gunfire echoed off the concrete.
"Get in!" Storm yelled, pushing me and Leo toward the open door of the sleek, black helicopter.
A man in a tactical mask rounded the corner of the mechanical shed, aiming a rifle directly at the helicopter cockpit.
Before Storm could aim, Leo reached into his pocket and threw his heavy silver toy car with surprising force. The metal toy struck the concrete right at the shooter's feet, distracting him for a crucial microsecond.
Storm fired two precise shots. The man collapsed.

The helicopter lifted off into the gray clouds, leaving the chaos of Boston far below.
