CHAPTER 1: THE GIRL WHO STOPPED A BILLIONAIRE'S WEDDING

The ballroom fell silent the second the little girl pointed at the bride.
Not quiet.
Frozen.
Crystal chandeliers glittered above hundreds of wealthy guests inside the Blackstone Grand Hotel while a string quartet continued playing for three confused seconds before the music finally died completely.
At the center of the room stood billionaire investor Adrian Whitmore beside his fiancée, Celeste Laurent—the woman every magazine in the city called flawless.
White diamonds shimmered around Celeste’s neck.
Champagne sparkled in raised glasses.
Camera flashes danced beneath golden light.
Then the hotel doors burst open.
Rain swept into the ballroom.
And standing there was a soaked little girl holding a crying baby.
She couldn't have been older than eight.
An oversized gray coat hung from her tiny frame.
Mismatched boots splashed water onto the marble floor.
Her thin arms trembled beneath the weight of the infant pressed tightly against her chest.
Gasps rippled through the crowd.
Security immediately moved toward her.
But before they could reach her, the girl lifted one shaking hand and pointed directly at the bride.
“You,” she whispered.
Every head turned toward Celeste.
The bride’s smile disappeared instantly.
Adrian frowned.
“What is this?”
The little girl never lowered her finger.
“You threw her away.”
The words struck the ballroom harder than thunder.
A wave of horrified whispers spread among the guests.
Celeste stepped backward.
“That’s insane.”
But the child continued.
“In the rain.”
She swallowed hard.
“At the dump.”
The baby began crying louder.
Adrian stared between them, unable to process what he was hearing.
“What is she talking about?”
Security finally arrived.
“Sir, we’ll remove her immediately.”
“No!”
The girl hugged the infant tighter.
“Please don’t take her!”
“She’ll die!”
Something in her voice froze everyone.
Not drama.
Not attention-seeking.
Fear.
Real fear.
Adrian slowly walked toward the child.
The billionaire looked enormous standing in front of her.
Then he noticed the blanket wrapped around the baby.
Gold initials were embroidered into the fabric.
C.L.
Celeste Laurent.
Adrian’s expression darkened instantly.
He slowly turned toward his fiancée.

The color drained from her face.
“That proves nothing,” she said.
