Chapter 2: The Investigation No One Knew About
Victoria folded her hands calmly.
"I joined this company six months ago through an anonymous employee program," she said.
Nobody moved.
Nobody breathed.
"The board wanted an honest assessment of our management culture."
Ricardo's face drained of color.
Victoria continued.
"We wanted to know how employees were being treated when they thought no executives were watching."
A board member stepped forward carrying a thick folder.
Then another.
And another.
The folders landed heavily on the table.
Inside were complaints.
Witness statements.
Financial audits.
Internal reports.
Dozens of pages.
Every one of them carried the same name.
Ricardo Alvarez.
His hands began trembling.
"This is ridiculous," he muttered.
"You can't do this."
A board member opened one file and read several findings aloud.
Abuse of authority.
Retaliation against employees.
Financial irregularities.
Manipulation of performance reviews.
The evidence seemed endless.
Employees who had remained silent for years suddenly understood why Victoria had spent months quietly observing everything.
She wasn't a junior analyst.
She was the investigation.
And Ricardo had unknowingly handed her all the proof she needed.
