Chapter 6 - THE PURGEBy four o'clock the following morning, the storm had passed, leaving behind a crisp, clear sky over the Long Island Sound.

The Golden Sovereign was docked quietly at an abandoned industrial pier in Brooklyn.
Federal agents and State Police cruisers, their blue lights flashing silently without sirens, lined the dock.
In a joint operation organized through Rory’s high-level political contacts, the signed confessions from Dr. Andrews, Susan Vance, and Victor Moretti were handed directly to the United States Attorney for the Eastern District.
Victor Moretti was stretchered off the yacht in handcuffs, facing federal charges of extortion, racketeering, and child endangerment that ensured he would spend the remainder of his life in a maximum-security prison.
Dr. Andrews was stripped of his medical license on the spot and led away in chains alongside his junior accomplices.
And Susan Vance was loaded into the back of a federal transport van, weeping hysterically, realized that her sister’s husband had stripped her of every cent, every asset, and every shred of freedom she had ever possessed.
On the pier, standing near the water's edge, stood Rory and Maya.
The early morning sun was beginning to rise over the Manhattan skyline, painting the water in shades of gold and amber.
Rory looked down at his hands. The heavy, dark tattoos that had signed so many violent orders felt different today. For the first time in three years, the weight in his chest felt lighter.
"It’s over," Rory said quietly.
"It’s over for them," Maya corrected softly, looking toward the city. "Now the hard part begins."
Rory looked at her. "The hard part?"
"Healing your daughters," Maya said. "The transducer is gone, and the bad people are in jail. But fear leaves a memory in a child's body, Mr. Starks. They need to learn that their room is safe again."
Rory turned his full attention to the young woman standing beside him.
In twenty-four hours, Maya had done what fifty doctors, hundreds of guards, and billions of dollars could not do. She had saved his children, exposed a traitor in his family, and brought down his greatest rival—all without losing her humanity.
"Maya," Rory said, his voice dropping into a tone that was softer than anything his men had ever heard from him. "Your brother Toby... his transfer to Johns Hopkins was approved this morning. He enters the private wing on Monday."
Maya’s eyes filled with tears. "Mr. Starks... I don't know how to thank you."
"You don't thank me," Rory said firmly. "I am in your debt for the rest of my life. But I have another proposal for you."
Maya blinked away her tears. "What proposal?"
"I am dismantling my darker shipping operations," Rory revealed, his eyes looking out over the harbor. "After what happened to Lily and Rose, I’m pulling out of the underworld completely. I’m legitimizing Moretti’s ports and combining them with Starks Logistics into a single, clean global maritime firm."
He looked back at her.
"I need a Chief Security and Technology Officer. Someone who can sweep every ship, every warehouse, and every office for bugs, traps, and betrayal. And..." Rory paused, his dark eyes softening, "...my daughters asked me this morning if you would stay at the estate."
Maya’s breath caught in her throat. "They asked for me?"
"They said the lady who caught the monster needs to stay for breakfast," Rory smiled—a genuine, warm smile that transformed his harsh, scarred face into something strikingly handsome.

Maya looked at the golden sunrise over the ocean, then at the man who had built a fortress to protect his children, and finally thought of the two little girls waiting for her at home.
"I'd love to stay for breakfast, Mr. Starks," Maya said.
