Chapter 11 - The Beginning of AlwaysSix months later. Autumn had returned to Chicago.

The grand ballroom of the private country club overlooking the lake was decorated with thousands of white roses, gold ribbons, and soft candlelight.

Music played softly from a live string quartet. Guests filled the hall—not mobsters or corrupt politicians, but real friends, doctors who had helped deliver the babies, community leaders, and trusted staff members who had become family.

At the front of the altar stood Dominic, looking impossibly handsome in a pristine black tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus, fully recovered and smiling proudly as his best man. Nearby, in custom silk high chairs, sat six-month-old Leo and Maya, babbling happily under the watchful eye of Dr. Vance.

The heavy mahogany doors at the back of the ballroom opened.

Every guest turned and gasped.

Layla walked down the white aisle, radiating beauty and happiness. She wore a breathtaking, off-the-shoulder white lace wedding gown with a long silk train. Around her neck hung her father's silver bird locket, freshly polished and gleaming under the chandelier lights.

And in her hair, woven into her dark locks, was a small, delicate gold ribbon—the same ribbon from the masquerade gala where their journey had begun.

Dominic felt his breath catch in his throat as he watched her walk toward him. The maid he had once carelessly dismissed had become the center of his universe, his strength, and his sanctuary.

When Layla reached the altar, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hand into his. His hand was steady, warm, and filled with a lifetime of promises.

"You look breathtaking," Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

"You don't look so bad yourself, Mr. Gallow," Layla teased softly, her eyes sparkling with light.

The priest smiled at the couple, standing before the glowing candles.

"We are gathered here today to unite two lives, two hearts, and one family in holy matrimony," the priest announced. "Dominic, do you take Layla to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, for as long as you both shall live?"

Dominic looked deep into Layla's eyes, holding her hands tightly.

"I do," Dominic said, his voice resounding through the room with absolute certainty. "I promise to protect you, to honor you, and to love you and our children with every breath I have."

The priest turned to Layla. "Layla, do you take Dominic to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Layla smiled, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes as she looked at the man who had fought through shadows to give her a home.

"I do," Layla whispered softly. "With all my heart."

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared. "You may kiss the bride."

Dominic didn't hesitate. He pulled Layla gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed their past, their present, and their future.

The ballroom erupted into loud cheers and applause.

Outside, the sun broke through the autumn clouds, scattering gold light across the water.

The glass had once shattered, the rain had once fallen, but in the end, love had rebuilt an empire—not of stone and steel, but of family, trust, and a forever happily ever after.
