CHAPTER 7 – THE BLOOD THAT COULD CHANGE EVERYTHING

The gunshot echoed through the darkness.

Clara instinctively threw herself toward the sound of Emma's name.

"Emma!"

A second later, emergency lights flickered on, bathing the corridor in a dim crimson glow.

Victor Ashcroft was gone.

Only one of Dominic's guards lay on the floor, clutching his shoulder.

"He escaped," the guard gritted through clenched teeth.

Dominic didn't waste a second.

"Seal every tunnel. Every exit. Nobody leaves this hospital."

Within moments, dozens of Moretti security officers swept through the building.

Meanwhile, Clara sprinted toward the ICU.

Her heart nearly stopped.

Emma's room was empty.

The bed sheets were tossed aside.

The IV line hung loose.

A tiny stuffed rabbit lay on the floor.

"No..."

Her knees buckled.

"They took her."

Then—

A faint cough.

Dominic pushed open the supply closet beside the ICU.

Inside, a frightened nurse held Emma tightly in her arms.

"They forced me to unlock the room," the nurse cried. "When the lights went out, I hid her before they could come back."

Clara collapsed in relief, wrapping Emma in her embrace.

"My baby..."

Emma opened tired eyes.

"Mommy..."

"I had a scary dream."

Tears streamed down Clara's face.

"It's over now."

But Dominic knew better.

It had only begun.

An hour later, Victor Ashcroft's abandoned laptop was recovered from an underground parking garage.

The encryption specialists worked through the night.

At dawn...

The final firewall broke.

Thousands of confidential files filled the screen.

Photographs.

Medical records.

Financial transactions.

Names of politicians.

Corporate executives.

Scientists.

Judges.

Even international officials.

Project Phoenix had never been about curing disease.

It had been about manufacturing genetically enhanced heirs for the world's most powerful families.

Children were treated like investments.

Failures disappeared.

Successes became property.

Emma's DNA report appeared on the screen.

Across the top were two terrifying words:

PERFECT MATCH

Dr. Hastings stared in horror.

"She's unique."

Dominic frowned.

"What does that mean?"

"It means every organization that funded Phoenix will come for her."

Clara stepped protectively in front of Emma's hospital bed.

"They'll never touch her."

Dominic quietly answered,

"They'll have to get through me first."

That afternoon, Dominic made a decision that shocked everyone.

He called every major news network.

Every federal investigator.

Every international medical ethics agency.

No secret meetings.

No bribery.

No threats.

Instead, he handed over every file recovered from Project Phoenix.

His own lawyers protested.

"If you release these documents, your business empire could collapse."

Dominic didn't hesitate.

"My empire can be rebuilt."

"A child's life cannot."

Within hours, headlines exploded around the world.

GLOBAL GENETIC EXPERIMENT EXPOSED.

POWERFUL ELITES ACCUSED OF HUMAN TESTING.

PROJECT PHOENIX DOCUMENTS RELEASED.

Arrests began before sunset.

Scientists disappeared into federal custody.

Politicians resigned.

Corporate CEOs were escorted away in handcuffs.

Victor Ashcroft became the most wanted fugitive in the world.
