CHAPTER 3: THE REUNION THAT EXPOSED THE TRUTH

“You sold me.”

The words echoed through the ballroom.

No one moved.

No one breathed.

Victoria stared at her stepmother in horror.

“What is she talking about?”

The older woman shook her head desperately.

“It’s a lie.”

But Amelia was already speaking.

“I was six years old.”

Her voice trembled.

“You told me we were going shopping.”

Victoria’s stepmother closed her eyes.

“You left me with strangers.”

A collective gasp swept through the crowd.

“They took me across the state.”

“Please stop,” the stepmother whispered.

“I cried for my family every night.”

Victoria felt tears streaming down her face.

“All these years...” she whispered.

“You were alive.”

Amelia nodded.

“I tried to find you.”

The ballroom watched in stunned silence.

“I wrote letters.”

“I called.”

“But every trail led back to her.”

She pointed at the stepmother.

“And somehow, every trail disappeared.”

Victoria slowly turned.

“Tell me she’s lying.”

The stepmother couldn't.

She simply lowered her head.

That silence was the confession.

Guests began recording.

Phones appeared everywhere.

Someone quietly called the police.

Victoria took a shaky step toward Amelia.

Then another.

For fifteen years she had mourned her sister.

Now she stood right in front of her.

Alive.

Crying.

Waiting.

Victoria wrapped her arms around her.

Both sisters broke down.

The ballroom erupted in tears.

Even strangers were crying.

Meanwhile, Victoria’s stepmother stood alone.

Her lies.

Her secrets.

Her perfect image.

All collapsing around her.

And as police sirens echoed outside the mansion, Victoria realized something heartbreaking.

The slap she regretted most had also uncovered the truth she had searched for her entire life.

Her sister was never gone.

Someone had simply stolen her away.

And now, after fifteen years, the sisters were finally together again.
