Chapter 4 - The Liquidation
The execution was total.
Within two hours, three industrial moving trucks backed into the driveway of the lakefront estate. A team of twenty forensic accountants and corporate movers systematically moved through the mansion, tagging every piece of luxury furniture, every piece of artwork, and every bottle of vintage wine.
Because the estate had been placed under the corporate trust during Daniel's recent refinancing—a deal I had quietly approved through a shell company—the entire property was legally seized to collateralize the immediate default of Cole Hospitality's loans.
"They're taking my car!" Vanessa shrieked from the grand driveway, watching as a flatbed tow truck hoisted her brand-new Porsche Cayenne onto its deck. "Mom! Dad! Do something! They can't take my car!"
"The vehicle is registered under the Cole Hospitality corporate fleet, Miss Cole," Arthur Vance, my senior corporate litigator, stated smoothly as he walked down the steps. "Since the company is currently entering forced liquidation due to unpaid debt acceleration, all corporate assets are being impounded effective immediately."
Daniel’s father fell back into an outdoor chair, his newspaper long gone, his hands clutching his head. "We’re ruined. Everything we built... everything we told our friends... it’s gone in a single morning."
Daniel rushed down the grand stairs, his tie undone, sweat soaking through his designer shirt. He threw himself in front of me as I prepared to step into my private black town car.

"Vivienne, please! Look at me!" Daniel begged, his eyes bloodshot, tears streaming down his face. "I love you! We can fix this! We’re married! Half of what you have belongs to me by law!"
"We signed a iron-clad prenuptial agreement, Daniel," I said, looking down at him with nothing but pure, unadulterated disgust. "An agreement your own lawyers drafted because they thought I was the one trying to steal your family's non-existent fortune. It includes a total asset forfeiture clause in the event of domestic violence or criminal indictment. You get nothing."
