Chapter 6 - A MOTHER'S REVENGE AND A NEW DAWN

Two hours later, Saint Jude’s Memorial Hospital was surrounded by over fifty armed Marchetti vehicles.
Damian didn't hide in the shadows this time. He marched directly through the main glass doors of the administrative wing, flanked by his private security force and federal agents from the Department of Justice, whom Damian’s legal team had mobilized using the video recordings and DNA evidence.
The corrupt hospital director, Chairman Harold Sterling, was caught inside Dr. Vance’s private office, frantically attempting to shred documents.
"Damian!" Sterling gasped, backing away against his mahogany desk as Damian smashed the office door off its hinges. "This is private property! You can't be in here—"
I stepped past Damian, walking directly over to the large anatomical chart on the wall. I pulled the chart down, revealing the hidden digital safe behind it.
"The code is Vance’s medical license number," I said coldly, typing in the sequence I had seen Vance use dozens of times when I was a student nurse.
The electronic safe beeped green and popped open.
Inside lay a heavy black leather ledger and three encrypted flash drives containing video logs, transaction records, and the complete names of every wealthy family who had purchased stolen babies from Saint Jude’s over the past decade.
Chairman Sterling slumped onto the floor, clutching his chest as federal agents pushed past Damian, placing heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"Maya Lin..." Sterling whimpered, looking up at me in terror. "You... you ruined us..."
"No," I said, stepping right up to him and looking down with absolute disdain. "You ruined yourselves the day you thought a mother's love could be bought and sold."
SIX MONTHS LATER
The morning sun cast a warm, golden glow across the rolling green lawns of the Marchetti estate.
The national scandal surrounding Saint Jude’s Hospital had shattered the human trafficking ring, leading to the arrest of over forty corrupt officials, doctors, and wealthy buyers. Dozens of stolen children were reunited with their biological families across the country.
On the back patio overlooking the sea, a large wooden table was set with fresh fruit, pancakes, and orange juice.
"Mama! Mama, look!"
Leo came running across the grass, holding a bright yellow butterfly fluttering between his tiny hands. Behind him, Lucas was giggling wildly, trying to catch up, while little Bella sat comfortably on a blanket, happily smearing strawberry jam all over her cheeks.
I laughed, kneeling down as Leo proudly showed me his butterfly before letting it fly away into the warm ocean breeze.
"That's beautiful, Leo," I cooed, kissing his forehead.
Strong, warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind. Damian pulled me back against his chest, resting his chin on my shoulder as we watched our three children playing in the sunlight.
The terrifying mob boss who had walked into Rosalie’s Diner six months ago was gone. In his place was a man whose eyes were full of peace, warmth, and profound love.
"They're getting fast," Damian murmured into my hair, pressing a gentle kiss against my neck. "I might have to hire more security just to keep up with them in the yard."
"You don't need security," I smiled, turning in his embrace to look up into his dark, handsome face. "They have their mother."
Damian smiled—a rare, breathtaking smile that melted my heart every single time. He reached into his jacket pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He opened it, revealing a stunning, teardrop-shaped hazel diamond ring that matched the exact color of my eyes—and the eyes of our children.
"Maya," Damian said softly, his voice rich with deep emotion. "Six months ago, you walked out of a dark alley in the rain and saved my life. You brought truth, light, and love into a home that was dead. Julian’s legacy is safe because of you. My heart belongs to you."
He took my hand, sliding the ring onto my finger.
"Will you do me the honor of officially becoming my wife... and the permanent mother of our family?"
Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness welled in my eyes. I looked over at Leo, Lucas, and Bella, who were now running toward us with wide, joyful smiles, shouting "Mama! Papa!" in unison.
May you like
"Yes," I whispered, throwing my arms around Damian's neck and kissing him deeply as the sun rose higher over the ocean. "A thousand times, yes."
The grief that had shadowed my life for so long was finally gone, replaced by the warm, sweet reality of the family I was always meant to have.
