Chapter 4 - The Breach at the Iron Gate

The quiet calm of the stone mansion evaporated in an instant.

Sirens didn't blare—Daario Kanti’s security system was designed for silent, lethal efficiency. Red security lights flickered quietly along the baseboards of the hallways. Within two minutes, twelve heavily armed guards in black tactical gear took up positions at every entrance, their automatic rifles pointed toward the grand iron gates at the end of the long driveway.

In the nursery, Elena was pacing frantically, clutching Matteo against her chest as the baby whined, sensing his mother’s spike of fear.

The door burst open, and Daario walked in. He had strapped a shoulder holster over his white shirt, a sleek, black custom semi-automatic pistol resting under his left arm.

"Elena," Daario said, his voice absolute steel. "Listen to me carefully."

"Are they coming here?" she whispered, her eyes wide with panic. "Tomas... why would Tomas do this?"

"Tomas is a coward looking for a way out of his debts," Daario said bluntly. "Bruno paid him to give them an inside layout of the property. They think they can breach the grounds, take you and Matteo hostage, and force me to surrender the shipping docks."

"Oh God..." Elena trembled, tears springing to her eyes. "This is my fault. I brought this to your home—"

Daario stepped forward, taking her by the shoulders with firm, grounding pressure. "Look at me, Elena."

She forced her eyes to meet his dark, unwavering gaze.

"Nothing that happens tonight is your fault," Daario said, his tone low and fierce. "You brought life into this house. You brought light into a place that was dead. I will not let them take that away."

He turned toward the back wall of the nursery. He reached behind a thick oak bookshelf, pressed a hidden release lever, and with a low metallic hum, a section of the wooden paneling slid back, revealing a heavy steel door equipped with a digital keypad.

"This is a reinforced safe room," Daario instructed, punching in a code. The heavy door clicked open, revealing a warm, carpeted interior equipped with leather seating, emergency communications, air filtration, and supplies. "Step inside. Lock it from the interior handle. Do not open it for anyone except me or Leo."

"Daario... please be careful," Elena begged, stepping toward the safe room threshold. She reached out impulsively, her hand resting against his forearm. "Don't get hurt."

Daario looked down at her hand on his sleeve, then up into her brown eyes filled with raw, desperate concern for him—not just for her own safety.

A dark, fierce pride flared in his chest.

"They brought thirty men to my home, Elena," Daario said softly, reaching up to gently brush a stray strand of dark hair behind her ear. "They should have brought an army."

He guided her inside, slammed the heavy steel door, and listened for the heavy thunk of the internal deadbolts engaging.

Satisfied she was secure, Daario turned around, his face hardening into an expression of pure, merciless vengeance. He pulled his weapon from its holster, racked the slide with a crisp clack, and strode down the long marble corridor toward the front terrace.

Outside, the rain had returned, slicking the long driveway.

At the main gate, a heavy armored Ram truck smashed through the wrought-iron barrier, tearing the double gates off their hinges in a shower of sparks and twisted metal. Three black SUVs roared onto the property behind it, spraying gravel as they screeched to a halt in front of the grand entrance.

Twenty armed men spilled out of the vehicles, led by Bruno Valenti and a nervous, twitching Tomas Ramos.

Tomas was thirty, wearing a rain-soaked denim jacket, his face thin and greasy. "I'm telling you, Bruno! The maid's room is above the kitchen! We take the kid, and Kanti will crawl on his knees!"

"Shut up and move!" Bruno barked, raising an automatic shotgun. "Spread out! Take the front doors!"

Before the mercenaries could advance ten steps, the heavy oak front doors of the mansion swung open calmly.

Daario Kanti walked out onto the stone terrace alone.

He wore no helmet, no tactical vest—just his white shirt, shoulder holster, and an aura of supreme, terrifying confidence that made the advancing men freeze in their tracks.

Behind him, emerging from the dark shadows of the tree line on both flanks, twenty-four of Daario’s elite enforcers stepped into the light, their laser sights painting dark red dots across the chests of Bruno’s men.

Bruno’s breath caught in his throat. "What the hell... Tomas, you said he only had six guards on duty!"

Tomas backed away in terror. "I... I thought—"

"You thought wrong, Tomas," Daario’s voice boomed across the wet courtyard, cutting through the sound of the falling rain like a clap of thunder. "You sold your wife. You sold your child. And you brought trash to my doorstep."

"Kanti!" Bruno yelled, trying to mask his rising panic by raising his shotgun. "Give us the dock contracts and the girl, and we walk away! You don't want a bloodbath on your lawn!"

Daario took one step down the marble stairs.

"This is not a bloodbath, Bruno," Daario said, his eyes blazing with lethal intent. "This is an execution."

Daario raised his hand and brought it down.
