CHAPTER 4: THE BOARDROOM EXECUTION

At 9:00 a.m., Andrew arrived at headquarters.

Every board member was already seated.

Nobody greeted him.

Nobody smiled.

Nobody stood.

The atmosphere felt like a funeral.

His funeral.

The chairman cleared his throat.

"Mr. Whitaker."

Andrew forced confidence into his voice.

"We've had a misunderstanding."

The board members exchanged looks.

Then the conference room doors opened.

Andrew's heart stopped.

Mariana walked in.

Elegant.

Composed.

Untouchable.

Behind her came five attorneys.

Then Alejandro Escalante.

The room immediately stood.

Every board member.

Every executive.

Every investor.

Except Andrew.

Because he was too stunned to move.

"What is this?"

The chairman answered.

"The truth."

Mariana placed a folder on the table.

Inside were documents.

Ownership records.

Financial guarantees.

Emergency funding agreements.

Debt restructuring contracts.

Years and years of hidden protection.

Every signature belonged to her.

Every rescue operation traced back to her.

Every major success story Andrew proudly claimed as his own carried her fingerprints.

The chairman folded his hands.

"Without Mrs. Escalante, this company would have collapsed three years ago."

Silence.

Dead silence.

Andrew stared at the documents.

His mouth opened.

Closed.

Opened again.

Nothing came out.

Because there was nothing to say.

Mariana finally spoke.

Calm.

Cold.

Precise.

"Last night you told me to kneel."

Andrew looked up.

The room watched.

Every eye fixed on him.

"You called me a thief."

Her voice never rose.

Never trembled.

"You struck me in front of your mistress."

The board members visibly stiffened.

Several looked horrified.

Mariana slid one final document across the table.

Divorce papers.

Already signed.

Already filed.

Then she stood.

And delivered the sentence that shattered what remained of Andrew's world.

"You thought I was leaving with nothing."

She smiled faintly.

"You never realized everything valuable was leaving with me."

Andrew's face turned white.

Outside the glass walls of the boardroom, employees had begun gathering.

Whispers spread.

Rumors exploded.

Phones lit up.

News reporters arrived downstairs.

And just as Andrew realized his empire was collapsing...

His phone buzzed.

One message.

From Brenda.

Three words.

They know everything.

Andrew stared at the screen.

Then slowly looked up.

Because for the first time, he understood.

The war had only just begun.
