CHAPTER 2: THE SUNRISE COLLAPSE

At 6:03 a.m., Andrew woke to seventeen missed calls.

By 6:05, he was shouting at his assistant.

By 6:12, he was no longer shouting.

He was staring.

Frozen.

His face pale as death.

The email displayed on his laptop screen carried the logo of every institution that mattered.

Banks.

Investors.

Credit partners.

Board members.

Each message contained the same devastating sentence:

Funding suspended pending investigation.

"What the hell is this?"

He called the finance department.

No answer.

He called legal.

No answer.

He called the board chairman.

The call went directly to voicemail.

Panic began crawling into his chest.

For years, Andrew believed he built his empire himself.

The luxury developments.

The investment portfolios.

The acquisitions.

The prestige.

The truth?

Most of it had survived only because Mariana quietly fixed disasters before anyone saw them.

And now every protection she had built was gone.

Downstairs, Margaret stormed into the dining room.

"What is happening?"

Andrew turned the laptop toward her.

The old woman's face drained of color.

At that exact moment another email arrived.

Then another.

Then another.

Every line of credit.

Frozen.

Every pending deal.

Suspended.

Every major investor.

Requesting immediate clarification.

Brenda walked in wearing a silk robe.

Still smiling.

Still believing she had won.

"Morning, baby."

Andrew didn't answer.

Brenda noticed the silence.

Then noticed the expressions.

Then noticed the shaking hands.

"What happened?"

Nobody answered.

The front door suddenly opened.

A courier entered.

Behind him stood three attorneys.

The lead attorney handed Andrew a thick folder.

"Mr. Whitaker."

Andrew frowned.

"What is this?"

The attorney adjusted his glasses.

"Notice of ownership review."

A chill swept through the room.

Margaret grabbed the papers.

Her hands began trembling.

Because every major asset they believed belonged to the Whitaker family had one thing in common.

Mariana's signature.

Mariana's trusts.

Mariana's guarantees.

Mariana's money.

And without those protections...

Everything became vulnerable.

For the first time in his life, Andrew realized his wife hadn't been dependent on him.

He had been dependent on her.

And he had just thrown her away.
