Chapter 6 - Warmth in the Sun

Two years later.

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden light across the expansive green lawns of a private estate overlooking the Pacific coastline. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming jasmine and the sound of toddlers splashing in a shallow garden fountain.

"Liam! Maya! Don't throw the water at the dog!" I laughed, stepping out onto the stone patio carrying a tray of fresh lemonade.

Two-year-old Liam, wearing little blue overalls, gave me a mischievous grin before splashing his sister again. Maya, wearing a matching yellow sundress, giggled wildly, her dark curls bouncing as she chased a golden retriever puppy across the grass.

They were healthy, vibrant, and filled with boundless energy—completely untouched by the dark night that had threatened to take their lives before they were even born.

A pair of strong arms gently wrapped around my waist from behind. Ethan rested his chin softly on my shoulder, his warm breath fanning across my neck as he looked out at the children.

"They're getting fast," Ethan chuckled, kissing my cheek gently. "I think Liam is going to be a track star."

I turned in his arms, resting my hands against his chest, looking into those familiar silver-gray eyes that had brought light into my darkest hour.

After the trial, Ethan hadn't just helped me secure full legal protection and financial independence; he had quietly, patiently earned my trust, proving every single day that true strength was meant to protect, not control. Six months ago, we had married in a quiet ceremony right here on this terrace.

"What are you thinking about?" Ethan asked softly, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"I was thinking about how cold it was that night," I admitted, wrapping my arms around his neck, leaning into his warmth. "And how I thought my life was over in that dark room."

Ethan pulled me closer, holding me tight against his chest, where I could feel the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.

"The cold didn't win, Olivia," Ethan whispered softly, looking out at our laughing children playing in the sunlight. "You brought us all into the warmth."

I smiled, kissing his lips under the clear blue sky, knowing that the nightmare was long behind us—and our real life had finally begun.
