Chapter 4 - The Shattered Glass

The silence that followed Chloe’s question was absolute.

It was a devastating, crushing silence that seemed to hold the entire room in a vice grip.

Ethan felt as if he had been struck physically. The words—too afraid of his own mommy to love us—sliced through his chest, stripping away every ounce of his pride, his excuses, and his wealth. He looked at Chloe, then at Leo, then at Mia. He saw his own face reflected in theirs. He saw the family he had dreamed of during those quiet nights with Amelia, the future he had traded away for a surname and a mother's cold approval.

"Amelia..." Ethan’s voice cracked, a single tear slipping down his cheek. "Are they... are they mine?"

"They are my children, Ethan," Amelia replied, her voice firm, carrying no malice, only an undeniable, heavy truth. "The children you and your mother decided were an 'unnecessary risk.' The ones your doctor said were a statistical impossibility."

"This is a setup!" Margaret shrieked, her voice echoing off the high ceilings, shattering the prestigious atmosphere she had spent decades building. "Ethan, don't listen to her! She’s trying to extort us! Security, remove this woman and these bastards immediately!"

"Don't you dare touch them!"

The shout didn't come from Ethan. It came from Olivia Harrington.

The bride stepped forward, her stunning white veil trailing behind her. She walked past Margaret, her eyes locked onto the older woman with a look of pure disgust. Olivia looked at the triplets, her expression softening with profound sadness and realization. She then turned her gaze to Margaret.

"You knew," Olivia said, her voice trembling with anger. "You knew Amelia was pregnant before they broke up, didn't you?"

"Olivia, darling, don't be ridiculous—" Margaret stammered, her face pale.

"Don't lie to me, Margaret!" Olivia snapped, throwing her bridal bouquet to the floor. "You forced them to take those medical exams. You manipulated the results, or at least the narrative, to drive her away. And when she left, you made sure Ethan never looked back. You set this entire wedding up to secure my family's assets, knowing damn well Ethan’s heart belonged to someone else—and that he had children out there!"

Olivia turned to Ethan. She reached down, unclasped the million-dollar diamond engagement ring from her finger, and dropped it into his hand.

"I wanted a husband, Ethan. Not a coward who lets his mother pull his strings while his children grow up without a father. The wedding is off."

With absolute grace, Olivia turned on her heel and walked out of her own wedding, leaving the high-society crowd in absolute, chaotic whispers.
