Chapter 6 - The Best Revenge

Two years later, the sun was setting over the Hudson River, casting a brilliant orange and pink glow across the private deck of our estate in the Hamptons.

The grass was a vibrant green, and the sound of children's laughter echoed from the playground Alexander had built near the water. Leo and Luca were chasing a golden retriever puppy across the lawn, while Mia sat on a picnic blanket, carefully painting a picture with her father.

The aftermath of the St. Regis wedding had been swift and total.

The Hale Shipping empire had collapsed within six months. The revelation of Julian's embezzlement, combined with a series of lawsuits filed by Alexander’s legal team regarding the fraudulent divorce settlement, had drained the company of its remaining capital. Richard had been forced to sell his penthouse, his cars, and his family estate to pay off his creditors.

He was currently living in a small, rented apartment in New Jersey, disgraced and forgotten by the very high society he had prized above all else. Vanessa and Julian were still embroiled in a bitter legal battle over the stolen corporate funds, their relationship ending in the same toxic ashes in which it was born.

But in our world, none of those names were ever spoken. They were ghosts, buried and forgotten.

Alexander walked over to me, carrying two glasses of white wine. He handed one to me, his fingers brushing mine.

"You're quiet tonight," he murmured, looking out over the water.

"Just thinking about how beautiful the sky is," I said, leaning against him. "And how lucky I am to have found a man who wasn't afraid of the wind."

Alexander smiled, his arm wrapping around my waist, pulling me flat against his chest. "You didn't need me to save you, Elena. You just needed someone to stand beside you while you saved yourself."

I looked out at our triplets, their faces bright with joy, their lives secure, happy, and filled with an abundance of love. I had spent ten years believing I was broken. But as I held the hand of the man who loved me, and watched the children who called me mother, I realized the ultimate truth.

The best revenge wasn't the public humiliation of my enemies.

It was the beautiful, messy, perfect life we had built from the ruins.
