Chapter 6 - A Promise Across Time

That evening, as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the clouds in shades of lavender and gold, I walked into Emma's new bedroom on the second floor.

The room was filled with books, stuffed animals, and a large wooden toy chest filled with building blocks.

Emma was sitting on her bed, tucked under a cozy blanket, her gray stuffed rabbit held tightly in her arms. Beside her nightstand stood a framed photograph of Sophia—smiling, beautiful, and peaceful.

I sat on the edge of the mattress, smoothing a strand of soft hair away from my daughter's forehead.

"Daddy?" Emma asked softly, her gray eyes shining in the dim lamplight.

"Yes, my sweet girl?"

"Did Mommy know we would have a house with a garden?"

I pulled the warm blanket up around her shoulders, my chest swelling with a love so immense it made all the dark years of my past fade into utter insignificance.

"Your mommy knew everything, Emma," I whispered, kissing her forehead gently. "She knew that you were going to bring light into a dark house. She knew that I was going to love you with everything I have."

Emma smiled—a small, radiant smile that belonged entirely to her mother. She nestled her head against my arm, her eyelids growing heavy with peaceful sleep.

"I love you, Daddy," she murmured, her breathing slowing into a soft, steady rhythm.

"I love you too, Emma," I whispered back into the quiet room. "Forever."

Outside the window, the stars began to appear one by one above the quiet hills. The secrets had been exposed, the traitors were gone, and standing in the light of the truth, my daughter and I had finally found our way home.
