THE SECRET IN THE BATHROOM
Minutes before his wedding, the groom discovered a little girl secretly hiding in the bathroom… crying uncontrollably.
She was curled up in the corner wearing a tiny white princess dress.
The groom gently held her hand and asked:
“What are you doing here?”
Through tears, the little girl whispered:
“Mom told me to stay hidden…”
“…and never go outside.”
At first, he thought nothing of it.
Then he asked one more question:
“Why?”
The little girl started shaking even harder.
“Mom said it’s a secret…”
“…and I mustn’t tell you anything.”
Suddenly, the groom froze.
Like he had just realized the terrifying truth behind his wedding
Ethan Carter had handled million-dollar negotiations without breaking a sweat.
But nothing prepared him for the sight of the little girl curled up on the bathroom floor.
She couldn't have been older than five.
Her tiny white princess dress matched the wedding colors perfectly.
Her cheeks were wet with tears.
And she looked terrified.
Ethan knelt beside her.
"Hey," he said softly. "What's your name?"
The little girl hesitated.
"Emma."
"Emma, where's your mom?"
The child looked toward the door as if someone might hear.
"She's getting married."
Ethan smiled gently.
"That's nice."
Then Emma added:
"To you."
The smile vanished.
For a second, Ethan thought he had misunderstood.
"What?"
Emma lowered her head.
"My mommy is Olivia."
The room suddenly felt smaller.
Olivia Bennett.
His fiancée.
The woman he had been dating for three years.
The woman who had repeatedly told him she had never been married.
Never had children.
Never wanted secrets between them.
Ethan's pulse began pounding.
He swallowed carefully.
"Emma... how old are you?"
"Five."
The answer hit him like a hammer.
Five years old.
Three years together.
The math didn't fit.
Unless Olivia had hidden an entire child from him.
The little girl wiped her eyes.
"Mom said if you saw me, you'd leave."
Ethan froze.
Outside the bathroom, wedding music drifted through the hall.
Guests were arriving.
The ceremony would begin in twenty minutes.
And suddenly he realized he knew almost nothing about the woman waiting at the altar.
Then Emma reached into her dress pocket.
And pulled out a photograph.
Ethan's heart nearly stopped.
Because the man standing beside Olivia in the picture looked exactly like him.
But it wasn't him.
