Chapter 5 - The Siege on the Gala

The annual Ferraro Estate Charity Gala was in full swing.

Over two hundred high-society guests, business moguls, and city officials filled the grand ballroom, surrounded by towering crystal chandeliers, classical live music, and magnificent flower arrangements.

Clara stood near the grand staircase, wearing a breathtaking midnight-blue silk gown, her hair styled in soft elegant waves. She looked every bit like a queen standing beside Luca, who wore a flawless black tuxedo.

"You look stunning tonight, Clara," Luca whispered in her ear, his hand gently resting on the small of her back.

Clara blushed softly, looking up at him with deep affection. "I still feel like I’m in a fairy tale, Luca. Sometimes I worry I’ll wake up and be back in that wet laundry room."

Luca took her hand, bringing it to his lips and pressing a firm, warm kiss onto her knuckles. "You will never go back, Clara. I promise you."

Upstairs in the nursery wing, three-year-old Nora was asleep in her bed, clutching her royal teddy bear, Barnaby. Two private security guards stood outside her room, while Marco monitored the master security feeds from the control room.

Suddenly, at 9:45 PM, the lights in the entire mansion flickered and died.

Panic rippled through the ballroom as darkness swallowed the hall. Emergency generators kicked in three seconds later, filling the room with dim red backup lighting.

BOOM!

A loud explosion echoed from the east wing generator room, triggering smoke alarms and chaotic screams among the guests.

Luca’s instincts flared instantly. He pulled Clara behind his broad frame, his eyes turning into lethal flint.

"Marco! Report!" Luca shouted into his wrist communicator.

Static hissed through the earpiece. "Boss! Armed men breached the east perimeter! They cut the main power lines! They're heading for the second floor!"

"Nora!" Clara screamed in horror, her face turning paper-white.

"Stay behind me!" Luca commanded, drawing a concealed firearm from beneath his tuxedo jacket.

Luca took Clara’s hand, cutting through the panicked crowd of guests, rushing toward the grand staircase.

On the second-floor hallway, three heavily armed men in black tactical gear had neutralized the two nursery guards using stun weapons. The leader—Victor Vance’s chief enforcer—kicked the nursery door open, grabbing little Nora from her bed as she began to cry in terror.

"Let me go! Mommy! Mr. Luca!" Nora screamed, kicking her small feet.

"Shut her up!" the enforcer growled, pulling a black zip-tie from his vest.

"Touch her again and you die," a voice echoed like a demonic roar from the hallway threshold.

The enforcer spun around.

Luca Ferraro stood in the doorway. His tuxedo was unbuttoned, his gun leveled with deadly precision, his eyes burning with an infernal fury that struck primal fear into the hearts of the intruders.

"Ferraro!" the enforcer yelled, grabbing Nora and holding her in front of his chest as a human shield. "Drop the gun, or I snap her neck!"

Clara stepped up behind Luca, choking back a sob as she saw her daughter held captive. "Nora!"

Nora looked across the room, seeing Luca standing tall and unwavering.

"Mr. Luca!" Nora squeaked. "Barnaby says don't be scared!"

Luca didn't flinch. His hand was as steady as stone. He looked into the enforcer's eyes, his tone dropping into a terrifyingly quiet whisper.

"You have three seconds to release her," Luca said. "One."

"I'll break her!" the enforcer panicked, raising his weapon.

"Two."

At that exact moment, Nora, remembering what Luca had taught her during their play sessions, pulled her small head back and bit down as hard as her tiny teeth could manage onto the enforcer's bare forearm.

"Agh!" the man yelled, instinctively loosening his grip.

Nora slipped from his arms, dropping onto the soft carpet.

THWIP! THWIP!

Two suppressed shots cut through the air with terrifying speed.

Luca’s bullets hit the enforcer and his accomplice squarely in the shoulders, dropping both men to the floor instantly before they could react.

Marco and four security guards rushed into the room, pinning the fallen intruders to the ground and disarming them.

Luca rushed forward, dropping to his knees, and pulled Nora into his broad chest. Clara ran over, dropping beside them, wrapping her arms around both Luca and her daughter, weeping tears of intense, overwhelming relief.

"I got you, baby," Luca whispered, his voice shaking with emotion as he held Nora tight, kissing her hair over and over. "I got you. You're safe."

Nora looked up, smiling through her tears, reaching out her tiny hand to touch Luca's cheek. "I was brave, Mr. Luca! Like a knight!"

"You were the braves knight in the world," Luca choked out, pulling Clara close and pressing his lips against hers in a passionate, fiercely protective kiss.
