Chapter 9 - The New Dawn

One year later.
The spring sun blazed across the sprawling emerald lawns of the Rossi estate, casting long, warm shadows over the stone courtyard where fountains bubbled peacefully in the background.
There were no armed guards patrolling the perimeter with drawn weapons today. The iron gates stood wide open, welcoming family, friends, and the laughter of children playing in the sun.
On the grand veranda overlooking the mountains, I stood wearing a flowing white silk dress, adjusting the collar of a small toddler suit on a very active, giggling one-year-old Leo as he tried to grab my silver necklace.
"Careful, little man," a deep, rich voice rumbled behind me.
Strong arms wrapped securely around my waist, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest. Lorenzo rested his chin on my shoulder, looking down at our son with a proud, fierce smile that had long since replaced his cold mafia scowl.
"Is everything ready for the ceremony?" Lorenzo asked, pressing a tender kiss to the side of my neck.
"Everything is ready," I smiled, turning around in his embrace and wrapping my arms around his neck. "Though I still can't believe we're actually doing this. A mob boss marrying his former maid? The society columns in Nashville are going to have a field day."
Lorenzo chuckled, a rich, genuine sound, and tightened his grip around my waist. "Let them write whatever they want. They only see the title. They don't see the woman who walked into a house of shadows and brought the sun back with her."
He leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, slow, absolute kiss that tasted of forever.

Around us, the estate echoed with life—music drifting from the grand ballroom, the chatter of invited guests, and the bright, bubbling laughter of little Leo as he chased a stray butterfly across the stone patio.
The nightmare of the past was buried deep in the limestone bedrock, forgotten and powerless. In its place stood a family, forged in grief, bound by miracles, and protected by a love that nothing in this world could ever break.
