Chapter 8 - The Crimson Rose

By evening, the Rossi estate felt entirely different.

The heavy, suffocating cloud of suspicion and fear that had choked the halls for months was gone, swept away by the swift, merciless justice of the Alpha King. Elena was locked away in federal custody. The corrupt night nurse was facing criminal charges. And Marcus was halfway across the country, heading toward a fate he richly deserved.

I sat in the nursery—the real nursery now, brightly lit, freshly scrubbed, and completely secure—rocking a healthy, cooing Leo in my arms. He had gained nearly half a pound in three days, his cheeks pink and chubby, his tiny fingers clutching tightly to my thumb.

The door opened softly.

Lorenzo stepped inside. He had changed out of his formal business suit into a simple black button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing the intricate tribal tattoos wrapping around his forearms.

He walked over, stopping a few feet away, watching the two of us with an expression so tender it felt almost surreal coming from a man of his stature.

"He likes that blanket," Lorenzo noted quietly, nodding toward the blue cashmere quilt wrapped around Leo.

"It's his favorite," I smiled, looking up at him. "He slept for four hours straight after feeding. The doctor says his vitals are completely normal. The poison is entirely out of his system."

Lorenzo let out a long, shuddering breath, as if a mountain had finally been lifted off his shoulders. He reached out, his hand gently brushing against my shoulder before sliding down to rest over Leo’s tiny feet.

"Thank you, Chloe," Lorenzo said, his voice dropping into a deep, resonant timbre. "Not just for saving his life... but for saving mine, too. After my wife passed... this house was a tomb. I thought my legacy was just going to be blood and ash. You brought the light back."

"I didn't do it for your legacy, Mr. Rossi," I murmured softly. "I did it for him. And... maybe a little bit for myself, too. Loving him helped me heal a part of me I thought was dead forever."

Lorenzo stepped closer, closing the distance between us until I could feel the clean, woodsmoke scent of his cologne mixing with the scent of baby powder.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a single, perfect crimson rose, its stem carefully stripped of thorns. He held it out, offering it to me with a shy, almost boyish smile that completely transformed his dangerous face.

"Mr. Rossi..." I breathed, looking down at the flower.

"Call me Lorenzo," he corrected gently, placing the rose softly into my free hand. "And for the record... my maids don't clean nurseries anymore. At least, not the ones who hold the title of Queen of this house."

I looked up into his amber eyes, seeing no darkness left in them—only a profound, unshakeable promise of a brand new beginning.
