Chapter 5 - RESTORATION AND REBIRTH

Six Months Later.
The autumn air in Cherry Hills Village was crisp and golden. The fallen leaves created a rich, rustling carpet along the long stone driveway of my newly renovated home.
I had completely gutted the house I once shared with Kenneth. The old furniture, the bedroom where I had caught him with Maya, the dark drapes—everything had been thrown away or donated. In its place stood a home filled with warm oak, soft linen, bright skylights, and thriving green plants.
In the backyard, a small gathering of thirty people were enjoying a Sunday afternoon garden party.
My grandfather’s old friends from Rollins Global were there, along with Justin, who was now officially named the permanent Chief Operating Officer of the company.
Standing near the rose garden talking to Justin was Dr. Aris Thorne—the brilliant forty-two-year-old reproductive specialist who had performed my corrective surgery four months ago.
Over the past four months, my relationship with Aris had grown from a professional doctor-patient dynamic into something deep, gentle, and profoundly comforting. He was a widower who understood grief, respect, and quiet strength. He had never pushed, never rushed, and had spent endless hours simply walking through the gardens with me, listening to my story without a single shred of judgment.
I walked down the stone patio steps wearing a simple cream-colored silk dress, holding a tray of fresh lemonade.
Aris looked up as I approached, his warm brown eyes lighting up with an affectionate smile.
"Mrs. Rollins," Aris greeted softly, stepping forward to take the heavy tray from my hands. "You're supposed to be resting today after your checkup."
"I am completely fine, Aris," I laughed lightly, taking a glass from the tray. "Dr. Thorne's official medical opinion this morning was that I have recovered 100% from the procedure."
"Well, Dr. Thorne is very strict about his patients' wellness," Aris teased gently, his fingers brushing against mine as he set the tray on a wooden table.
Justin smiled, taking a glass of lemonade for himself. "I'm going to go check on the grill. You two talk."
Justin gave me a subtle, mischievous wink before walking toward the patio, leaving Aris and me standing together under the shade of a large maple tree.
Aris looked at me, his gaze tender and genuine. "You look truly happy today, Sabrina."
"I am," I admitted, looking around the bright garden filled with people I loved and trusted. "A year ago, I was sitting in a downtown café believing my life was completely over. I thought I was worthless, broken, and alone."
"You were never any of those things," Aris said softly, taking a small step closer. "You are one of the strongest, most resilient women I have ever had the privilege to meet."
He reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, official medical folder.
"I brought the final lab results from your bloodwork this morning," Aris said, handing the folder to me.
I opened the file. Inside was a certified ultrasound printout from my post-surgery evaluation, alongside a clean bill of health.
At the bottom of the page, written in Aris's neat handwriting, was a note: Patient is fully restored, healthy, and completely ready to begin the next chapter of her life—whenever she chooses.
I looked up from the paper, tears of deep gratitude shimmering in my eyes. "Thank you, Aris. For everything."
"You don't need to thank me, Sabrina," Aris smiled, holding out his hand. "Would you like to take a walk down to the pond?"
May you like
I slid my hand into his—feeling the warm, solid strength of a man who respected me for who I was.
"I’d love to," I smiled.
