Chapter 6 - THE MOON TRAVELERS (EPILOGUE)

Two years later.

The warm afternoon sun illuminated the vast, green gardens of our estate in Upstate New York. The sound of children's laughter floated across the lawn, mixed with the sweet scent of blooming roses and freshly cut grass.

Under the shade of an old oak tree, five-year-old Claire and Maya were running after a golden retriever puppy, their happy squeals filling the summer air. Claire moved with effortless grace, running, jumping, and playing without a single trace of her past weakness.

Standing on the stone terrace, watching our daughters, I stood with my arms wrapped securely around my wife's waist.

Hannah rested her head back against my chest, her hand resting over her gently rounded stomach. She was six months pregnant with our third child—a baby boy.

"Look at her, Damon," Hannah whispered, a soft, beautiful smile resting on her lips as she watched Claire leap over a small wooden garden bench to catch the puppy. "She really is a moon traveler."

I smiled, resting my chin gently on top of Hannah’s head, holding her close against the cool summer breeze.

"She learned from the best," I murmured, my hand gently patting her baby bump, feeling the tiny, strong kick of our unborn son from within.

Marcus walked up the terrace steps, dressed in a comfortable linen shirt, holding a tray of iced tea. The former security chief was now the estate manager, his face relaxed and free from the stress of the underworld.

"The board meeting in Rotterdam went smoothly, Boss," Marcus reported with a smile, handing us the glasses. "Your charitable foundation for pediatric physical therapy just opened three new free clinics in the Bronx."

"Thank you, Marcus," I replied, taking a sip. "Make sure Hannah’s mother receives the inaugural report for the hospital wing named after her."

"Already taken care of, sir," Marcus bowed respectfully before heading back inside.

I turned Hannah around in my arms, looking into her beautiful blue-gray eyes. The dark, dangerous crime lord who had once stared at a surveillance monitor in terror thirty miles away was gone forever. In his place stood a man who was whole, loved, and infinitely blessed.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Hannah asked softly, reaching up to gently touch my cheek.

"I was thinking about hidden cameras," I said with a soft chuckle. "I installed them to catch enemies... but instead, they showed me the angel who was going to save my life."

Hannah smiled, leaning up on her tiptoes to press a warm, tender kiss against my lips.

"I didn't save your life, Damon Vance," she whispered against my mouth. "We built a life together."

Across the lawn, Claire and Maya came running up the terrace steps, their faces flushed red with excitement, holding hands.

"Daddy! Mommy!" Claire cheered, pointing toward the rising evening sky where a faint, silver crescent moon was beginning to appear above the pine trees. "Look! The moon is coming out! Can we go on a walk before bedtime?"

I looked down at my wife, then at my two healthy, happy daughters, and took Hannah's hand in mine.

"Lead the way, my little moon traveler," I smiled, stepping down into the sunshine. "Lead the way."
