Chapter 6 - A New Dawn
One year later.
The gardens of the Vance Manor were bathed in the golden light of a perfect summer afternoon. The sound of children's laughter echoed through the air.
Jonah and Elise, now healthy, happy toddlers, were taking their first steps on the lush green grass. Jonah, wearing a tiny bowtie, was chasing a golden retriever puppy, while Elise giggled as she held onto Callie’s hands.
Callie looked radiant. She had completely rebuilt her mother’s brand, Aura, transforming it into a global powerhouse that focused on ethical fashion and charity foundations for single mothers and premature infants.
"They are growing so fast," a voice said from behind her.
Callie turned to see Lucas Vance, her cousin and business partner, walking toward her with a tray of fresh lemonade. Beside him was Colonel Whitaker, looking proud and relaxed in a civilian suit.
"They get their strength from their mother," Colonel Whitaker smiled, handing Callie a glass.
"They get their strength from everyone who loved them when they were small," Callie corrected softly, looking out over the ocean.
Just that morning, she had received the final update from her legal team. Russell Harlan had been sentenced to twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary for grand larceny, corporate fraud, and attempted kidnapping, with no chance of parole. Tessa Blake had been sentenced to five years as an accessory to his financial crimes. They were gone, written out of her life forever.
Callie sat down on a blanket on the grass, and both Jonah and Elise crawled into her lap. She wrapped her arms around them, pulling them close.
