Chapter 4 - The Dismantling

The confrontation at the Santillán family estate in Las Lomas was brutal.
Leonor Santillán sat in her elegant, high-backed armchair, sipping tea from a delicate porcelain cup, completely unbothered by her son’s fury.
"You acted behind my back, Mother," Mauricio said, his voice cold and steady as he threw the NDA onto the glass coffee table between them. "You threatened a pregnant woman. You used my company to buy my children’s silence."
"I protected you, Mauricio," Leonor replied, her tone icy and aristocratic. "You were on the verge of taking this company public. A messy divorce with an emotional schoolteacher claiming pregnancy would have created a circus. Investors want stability, not soap operas. I did what your father would have done."
"My father died bitter and alone in a sterile hospital room because he cared more about his assets than his family!" Mauricio shouted, his composure finally breaking. "And I was turning into him. But that ends today."
"What are you going to do?" Leonor sneered. "Expose us? The statute of limitations on that contract has passed, and if you try to nullify it publicly, you will destroy the company's valuation. You'll lose billions."
"Let it burn," Mauricio said quietly.
He leaned down, looking his mother in the eye.

"I have already instructed my legal team to file a voluntary petition for paternity. I am legally acknowledging Mateo and Santiago as my sons. I have resigned as CEO of Santillán Holdings, effective immediately. I am transferring my majority shares into a private foundation managed by an independent board. I don't want the empire anymore, Mother. I'm going to build something else."
For the first time in her life, Leonor Santillán looked terrified. She watched as her son turned his back on the family fortune, walking out of the mansion without looking back.
