Chapter 5 - Exposing the Viper

Though Lauren was gone from the house, she wasn't done trying to cause damage. Driven by malice and desperation, she used her phone to log into the local neighborhood Facebook group—a community of over ten thousand local residents.
She posted a long, weeping statement claiming that David had become violent, that his wealthy in-laws had brainwashed him, and that they had thrown her out on the street without a penny just because she tried to discipline a troubled child.
Within an hour, the post had hundreds of comments. Neighbors were shocked, some expressing anger toward David, demanding explanations.
David sat at the kitchen table, watching the notifications flood in. For a moment, the old anxiety crept back. But Arthur placed a steady hand on his shoulder.
"In the digital age, David, people love a lie until they face the unedited truth," Arthur said quietly. "Give them the truth."
With Arthur’s legal approval, David uploaded a single post in response. He didn't write a long, emotional paragraph. He simply posted three things:
The scanned pages of Lauren’s own journal entries detailing how she poisoned and isolated Emily.
A photo of the severe bruise on Emily's arm from the day David walked in early.
The high-definition video file from the garage recording, where Lauren clearly laughed about manipulating the court and destroying David’s life.
The reaction from the community was instantaneous and devastating.
The hundreds of sympathetic comments on Lauren's post vanished within minutes. The entire town turned on her with a fierce, unified rage. Her phone number was flooded with thousands of messages condemning her. The local school board where she volunteered immediately issued a public statement banning her from ever setting foot on school property, and the boutique shop where she worked fired her via a public comment on her own post.
By that evening, Lauren’s viral post had become her own public execution. Terrified of the local backlash and the growing crowd of angry local mothers online, she deleted all her social media accounts, checked out of her hotel, and fled the town in the middle of the night, knowing she could never show her face in the state again.
Back at the house, the atmosphere felt completely different. The heavy, toxic air that had filled the rooms for two years seemed to evaporate.
Emily came down the stairs, holding her favorite pink unicorn toy—the one David had carefully glued back together the night before. She walked over to the kitchen table, looked at David, and then looked at Arthur.
"Grandpa?" Emily whispered softly.

Arthur’s eyes filled with tears. He knelt down on the floor, opening his arms wide. "Yes, my beautiful girl. It's me. I've been looking for you for so long."
Emily ran into his arms, hugging him tightly. David watched them, a profound sense of relief washing over him. The truth had leaked out just in time, and the shield around his daughter was now unbreakable.
