Chapter 6 - The Legacy of Love

Five years later.

The summer sun reflected off the sparkling waters of Lake Champlain in Vermont.

The stone farmhouse had expanded over the years, blooming into a warm, laughter-filled estate where horses grazed in green pastures and a large wooden treehouse sat nestled in the branches of a grand oak tree.

On the wide stone patio overlooking the lake, a large wooden dining table was set for a family Sunday lunch.

Nine-year-old Owen, who now looked remarkably like a younger version of his father, sat at the table patiently reading a chapter book to his five-year-old little sister, Clara—our youngest daughter, born four years after our second wedding.

Eight-year-old Ivy and Noah were playing tag on the lawn with Barnaby—a golden retriever rescue Sebastian had brought home two years ago—their happy, ringing laughter echoing across the green valley.

Standing near the outdoor grill, wearing a simple gray linen shirt and jeans with his sleeves rolled up, was Sebastian.

The most feared man in New York's underworld was currently holding a spatula, laughing with Marcus as they argued over the proper temperature for grilling steaks.

I stood near the French doors holding a pitcher of fresh lemonade, watching the scene before me with a heart so full it felt as though it might burst.

The Syndicate was still thriving under Sebastian’s leadership, but it was no longer a brutal empire of fear. Over the last five years, Sebastian had systematically transitioned sixty percent of the family's assets into legitimate international logistics, green energy shipping, and global educational foundations managed directly by my team. The darkness that had plagued the Vale name for generations had been thoroughly cleansed, replaced by a legacy of honor, protection, and philanthropy.

Arthur Vale had passed away peacefully two years ago in a private care facility in Zurich, having lived his final days knowing that the family he had tried to control through cruelty was now happier, stronger, and more powerful than he had ever dreamed possible.

Sebastian turned around, catching my eye across the patio.

He set the spatula down, said something to Marcus, and walked toward me with that slow, graceful stride that still made my pulse race after all these years.

He stepped onto the porch, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder as we watched our four children playing together in the sun.

"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Vale?" Sebastian whispered into my ear, his breath warm against my neck.

I leaned back against his strong chest, listening to the steady, reassuring beat of his heart.

"I’m thinking about a cold day in Central Park," I admitted softly, turning my head to smile up at him. "I was running as fast as I could because I was terrified of the man in the charcoal coat."

Sebastian chuckled softly, leaning down to press a warm, lingering kiss against my lips.

"And now?" he asked, his gray eyes glowing with endless, unyielding devotion.

"And now," I whispered, reaching up to trace the familiar line of his jaw, "I know that running into your arms was the best thing that ever happened to my life."

May you like

Sebastian pulled me closer, holding me tight against his heart as the golden sun set over the Green Mountains, bathing our home, our children, and our eternal love in a warm, endless light.

(The End)
