Chapter 4 - The Brooklyn Docks

The storm over Upper New York Bay was relentless, churning the dark waters against the concrete piers of Pier 42 in Brooklyn.
Huge steel shipping containers were stacked three stories high, creating dark, maze-like corridors illuminated only by the harsh yellow glow of halogen floodlights swinging in the wind.
A sleek black fleet of four armored SUVs pulled into the central courtyard of the container yard, their headlights cutting through the heavy sheets of rain.
Sebastian stepped out of the lead vehicle, holding a heavy black umbrella, wearing a dark leather tactical jacket over his suit. Beside him stepped Marcus and eight elite Syndicate enforcers, all armed with silenced carbines.
Standing fifty yards away near a crane tower was Senator Thomas Montgomery, flanked by ten heavily armed men wearing dark tactical gear without insignia—mercenaries hired through Arthur’s private channels.
Beside the Senator stood Victor Vale—Sebastian’s uncle—a slimy, ambitious man who had managed the Jersey supply chains for a decade.
"Sebastian!" Senator Montgomery shouted over the roaring wind and rain. "You should have stayed at the Plaza for lunch! You just destroyed your entire political future in one afternoon!"
Sebastian walked steadily forward, stopping twenty paces from the group, completely unfazed by the ten automatic weapons pointed directly at his chest.
"Victor," Sebastian addressed his uncle, ignoring the Senator entirely. "You took two warehouses that belong to my children's trust fund. That was a foolish move."
Victor sneered, stepping forward with a legal folder in his hand. "Those warehouses belong to the Syndicate, Sebastian! Arthur built those contracts! You think you can just march a common baker’s girl into Greenwich and strip the founding family of its assets? The board in Jersey supports Arthur!"
"The board in Jersey is dead, Victor," Sebastian informed him calmly.
Victor froze. "What...?"
"While we were driving here from Greenwich," Sebastian explained, pulling out a silver pocket watch and checking the time, "my secondary enforcement team raided the Jersey headquarters. Every capo who signed Arthur’s petition has been stripped of his crew and placed under federal arrest for illegal weapons smuggling—using the very evidence Arthur compiled over ten years."
Senator Montgomery’s face turned gray. "You... you tipped off the federal prosecutors?"
"I gave them Victor's private ledgers," Sebastian corrected smoothly. "Which, if I remember correctly, Senator, contain forty-three wire transfers directly into your re-election campaign fund."
The Senator stumbled back half a step, looking at Victor in absolute, horror-stricken panic. "Victor! You told me those accounts were untraceable!"
"They were untraceable," Sebastian said, his gray eyes glinting like cold steel under the floodlights. "Until I bought the offshore bank in Zurich yesterday morning."
Victor let out a roar of desperate rage, pulling a snub-nosed revolver from his jacket. "You son of a bitch! I'll kill you myself!"
Pfft. Pfft.
Before Victor could raise his gun three inches, two silenced shots rang out from the crane tower high above.
Victor gasped, dropping to his knees on the wet concrete, blood blooming across his chest, before he collapsed face down into a puddle.
The ten mercenaries surrounding the Senator instantly dropped their weapons, raising their hands in total surrender as six red laser sights appeared on their chests from the darkness surrounding the shipping containers.
Senator Montgomery fell to his knees, his expensive suit soaking in the rain, looking up at Sebastian in sheer, unadulterated terror.
"Please... Sebastian..." the Senator begged, shaking violently. "I have a family... Clarissa... think of Clarissa..."
Sebastian walked slowly up to the kneeling Senator, looking down at him with dark, absolute contempt.
"You will resign from the Senate by eight o'clock tomorrow morning, Montgomery," Sebastian commanded softly, every word laced with lethal authority. "You will sell your holdings in the port authority to the Vale Foundation for one dollar. And if I ever see you or your daughter within fifty miles of my wife or my children again... I won't use the federal prosecutors."
"I understand! I swear to God I understand!" Montgomery wept, pressing his forehead against the wet concrete.
Sebastian turned on his heel, tossing his umbrella aside, walking back toward his Maybach as the rain soaked through his coat.
Marcus stepped up beside him, handing him a clean towel. "The Jersey branch is fully secured, Boss. Arthur’s remaining loyalists have surrendered. The Syndicate is hundred percent under your control."
Sebastian wiped the rain from his face, looking up at the Manhattan skyline gleaming across the dark bay.
"Prepare the private jet for tomorrow morning, Marcus," Sebastian ordered softly.
Marcus blinked in surprise. "The jet, Boss? Where are we going?"
May you like
A genuine, warm smile broke across Sebastian’s face—a smile that carried five years of lost dreams finally reclaimed.
"We are going to Vermont," Sebastian said. "My wife and I have a real wedding to plan."
