Chapter 10 - THE FINAL REVELATION"Jump!" Elena screamed, shoving me hard to the left as the massive black SUV slammed into the chain-link fence right where we had been standing, tearing metal posts out of the ground like toothpicks.

The vehicle screeched to a violent halt, kicking up a storm of mud and grass.
The driver's door swung open.
A polished leather shoe stepped out onto the wet grass, followed by the crisp hem of an expensive tailored suit.
I wiped the mud from my face, struggling to my feet, and stared in absolute disbelief at the figure emerging from the shadows of the headlights.
It wasn't a hired thug. It wasn't an outsider.
It was my cousin Marcus's father—my eldest uncle, Arthur Moretti.
He held a heavy, silenced revolver in his hand, his face completely devoid of the warm, patriarchal smile he had worn at the dinner table just an hour ago.
"You really should have stayed upstairs with your wine, Luca," Arthur said smoothly, raising the weapon and aiming it squarely at my chest.
"Uncle Arthur..." I breathed, the betrayal burning hotter than any anger. "You. You were the silent partner all along. You ran the entire syndicate behind Papa's back."
"Your father was weak, Luca," Arthur replied, his voice chillingly calm as he stepped closer, the gun never wavering. "He wanted to split the estate evenly between you, me, and Alessandra. But empires aren't built on equality; they are built on absolute control. Alessandra found out, threatened to expose our offshore accounts to the board, so we dealt with her. And tonight, you decided to play detective and dig up the past."
"You killed your own niece," Elena said coldly, keeping her weapon lowered slightly out of sight to avoid provoking him prematurely.
"I protected the Moretti name," Arthur corrected sharply. "And now, unfortunately history must repeat itself. A tragic accident near the drainage ditch. Uncle Arthur tried to save his nephew, but the slippery slope gave way."
Arthur's finger tightened on the trigger.
"Any last words, Luca?"
I looked into his eyes—eyes that had watched me grow up, eyes that had smiled at my birthdays, eyes that were now ready to extinguish my life without a single shred of remorse.
I didn't flinch. Instead, I slowly reached into my jacket pocket and pulled out the battered VHS tape.
Arthur’s eyes flicked to the tape for a fraction of a second—just a split second of human curiosity and panic.
That was all the opening Elena needed.
With blinding speed, Elena raised her service pistol and fired.
Bang!
The bullet struck Arthur's hand with pinpoint precision. The heavy revolver flew out of his grip, spinning off into the dark mud with a dull splash.
Arthur screamed, clutching his bleeding hand as he stumbled backward against the side of the SUV.
Before he could reach for the car door, the heavy roar of approaching sirens filled the night air. From every direction, unmarked federal cruisers and state police vans surged through the estate gates, their red and blue emergency lights painting the rainy night in flashing crimson and cobalt.
Dozens of armed tactical officers poured out, swarming the area and pinning Arthur to the ground in seconds.
"Arthur Moretti, you are under arrest for the kidnapping, conspiracy, and murder of Alessandra Moretti," Captain Miller's voice boomed across the lawn as handcuffs snapped onto Arthur's wrists.
As they dragged my uncle away into the flashing lights of a police cruiser, he looked back at me one last time, a dark, twisted grin on his face.
"You think it ends with me, Luca?" he laughed maniacally over the wailing sirens. "Look at the board. Look at the foundation. The rot is everywhere. You're completely alone!"
I stood in the mud, breathing heavily, holding the battered VHS tape tightly in my hand.

The storm clouds overhead finally began to break, letting the pale moonlight shine down on the sprawling Moretti estate. The nightmare of that night eight years ago was finally exposed to the light. But as I looked back at the grand, silent mansion behind me, I knew Arthur was right.
The empire was stained to its very foundation. And the hardest battle to rebuild it was only just beginning.
