Chapter 3 - The Ghost of London

The London rain tapped softly against the window of our new townhouse in Chelsea.

It was a beautiful, historic building with high ceilings and a small, private garden in the back where Connor could practice his drills. For the first time in ten years, the heavy, suffocating weight of Bradley’s disapproval was gone. I didn't have to walk on eggshells. I didn't have to apologize for existing.

"Mom, look!" Madison called out, pointing to a large, beautifully wrapped box on the living room table. "Is this from Uncle William?"

"Yes, sweetie," I smiled, walking over to ruffle her hair.

William Harrison—the name Bradley had never bothered to learn—was my older brother. He was a silent partner in one of the most successful hedge funds in Europe. When Bradley had isolated me from my family, telling me my relatives were "low-class" and refusing to let me visit them, I had believed him out of fear.

But when I discovered Bradley's affair six months ago, I reached out to William.

Within forty-eight hours, William had placed a team of top-tier forensic accountants and private investigators at my disposal. Together, we had quietly traced every single dollar Bradley had stolen from our marital assets to fund Tiffany’s lavish lifestyle and his own private investments.

A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts.

William walked in, shaking the rain from his umbrella. He looked at me with a proud, warm smile.

"They served him, Sarah," William said, handing me a glass of wine. "The federal marshals arrested Victor Vance at JFK airport three hours ago. Bradley is currently being questioned by the SEC. They frozen all of his personal and corporate accounts."

"And the penthouse?" I asked.

"Foreclosed," William replied. "He used the property as collateral for a bad loan to buy Victor’s silence. He has nothing left. His mother and sister are being evicted as we speak."

I took a slow sip of my wine, looking out at the beautiful London street. I felt no anger. I felt no desire for revenge.

I had simply taken back what was mine.
