Chapter 3 - The Untouchable Trust

Panic descended upon the Whitmore backyard like a sudden summer squall.

Richard’s face morphed from mild embarrassment to stark, icy terror. "Mother, you can't be serious! You're talking about millions of dollars! Decades of family legacy! Over a childish party seating arrangement?"

"It was never about a chair, Richard," Margaret replied coldly, leaning on her cane. "It was about character. And you, your wife, and your spoiled children have proven yourselves utterly bankrupt."

Harrison Vance opened a thick manila folder, his expression grim. "Mr. Whitmore, under the terms established by the late Arthur Whitmore and controlled solely by Madam Margaret, any gross display of public misconduct or malice toward blood relatives triggers an immediate asset freeze. Effective as of right now, all corporate expense accounts, subsidiary funding, and personal trust distributions linked to your household are suspended."

Sloane dropped her half-eaten gold-dusted cupcake. It landed with a dull thud on the pristine lawn. "Wait... does that mean my boarding school tuition? My car?"

"Gone," Harrison stated flatly. "Along with your allowances, your designer wardrobes, and your country club memberships."

Vanessa grabbed Richard’s arm, her voice rising in hysteria. "Richard, do something! She’s giving away everything we’ve worked for! To whom? To them?" She pointed a trembling manicured finger directly at Elena and Mia.

Elena stood frozen by the back door, still holding the dish towel, her mind racing. She had never asked for a dime from the Whitmore empire. When she married David Whitmore—Margaret’s beloved grandson who had tragically passed away three years prior—she had deliberately kept her distance from their toxic wealth. She had chosen to work double shifts as an ICU nurse to raise Mia with her own hands, refusing to bow to the family's condescension.

And now, this unimaginable storm was swirling around her daughter.

"Grandma," Mia whispered, hugging Margaret’s waist. "Is everyone going to be mad at us?"

Margaret softened instantly, resting her chin on the little girl's head. "Let them be angry, my darling. True wealth cannot be taken away by changing a will. It lives in your heart."

Richard took a desperate step forward, his voice cracking. "Mother, please. We apologize. We’ll apologize to Elena and Mia right now. Just don't do this!"

Margaret didn't even look at him. She turned her back on her son, looking down at Elena. "Come inside, my dear. Pack your things. You and Mia are moving into the main estate tonight. It’s time you live where you belong—surrounded by people who actually know your worth."
