Chapter 3 - The Wall Street War

At 8:00 AM the following morning, the sun rose over a Manhattan wrapped in crisp autumn air.
Inside the glass-paneled boardroom of Stone Global on the 50th floor of a Midtown skyscraper, twenty senior executives, corporate lawyers, and private intelligence operatives sat around an oval mahogany table.
Ethan Stone stood at the head of the table. He wore a crisp, dark navy suit, his power tie knotted tightly, his face carved from cold granite.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Ethan announced, his voice echoing off the glass walls. "As of seven o'clock this morning, Stone Global has initiated a full-scale host-acquisition strategy against Aegis Capital."
A wave of shocked murmurs swept through the room.
The Chief Financial Officer, a silver-haired man named Marcus Vance (no relation to Julian Vance), leaned forward. "Ethan, Aegis Capital is a private firm. They aren't publicly traded. We can't buy their shares on the open market."
"We aren't buying their shares, Marcus," Ethan replied coldly, pressing a button on his remote.
A massive digital screen behind him illuminated, displaying a complex web of corporate entities, offshore accounts, and debt obligations.
"Aegis Capital relies heavily on credit lines provided by Deutsche Bank and Morgan Stanley to leverage their hostile takeovers," Ethan explained, pointing to the screen. "Over the past three hours, my personal trust has purchased eighty-five percent of Aegis Capital's distressed short-term debt directly from those institutions. I now hold forty million dollars of their primary commercial paper."
Ethan leaned over the table, pressing his palms flat against the mahogany surface.
"I am executing an immediate demand for full debt repayment within twenty-four hours," Ethan declared. "When Julian Vance fails to cover the liquidity requirement—which he will—we foreclose on every single asset Aegis owns. Every building, every subsidiary, every private account."
A senior legal partner cleared his throat nervously. "Ethan... this is an unprecedented deployment of capital for a personal vendetta. The board will demand to know why we are risking sixty million dollars to liquidate a mid-tier firm."
"The board will do as they are told because I own fifty-two percent of the voting shares in this company," Ethan said, his tone turning dangerously soft. "And if anyone in this room leaks a single word of this operation before the market closes today, I will personally see to it that you never work in financial services again."
Silence fell over the room. No one dared to speak.
"Harrison," Ethan turned to his security chief.
"Sir?"
"Julian Vance has a court hearing at two o'clock today in Stamford, Connecticut, regarding the custody order for Samantha Montgomery," Ethan said, his eyes narrowing. "Have our legal team file an emergency intervention brief. I will be attending that hearing in person."
At 1:45 PM, the Stamford Family Courthouse was quiet.
Julian Vance stood in the hallway outside Courtroom 3B, adjusting his designer silk tie. He was a man in his late forties, with slicked-back dark hair, a manicured beard, and a smug, arrogant sneer that had intimidated dozens of small business owners over the years.
Beside him stood his chief legal counsel, a slick attorney named Arthur Pendelton.
"Is the girl secured yet?" Vance asked, checking his gold Rolex.
"Our investigators lost sight of her after she entered the Manhattan hotel yesterday," Pendelton admitted quietly. "We think the mother tried to hide her there before her suicide attempt. But it doesn't matter, Julian. The mother is currently comatose in the hospital. The judge will grant you immediate temporary guardianship as the primary creditor."
Vance chuckled, a greasy, satisfied sound. "Excellent. Once I have the kid, Claire will have no choice but to sign over the remaining coastal deeds in Maine. She’s out of moves."
"Is she?"
A voice like dropping steel echoed down the marble hallway.
Julian Vance turned, his smug expression freezing instantly.
Walking down the corridor was a procession that made the court guards stand up straight. Flanked by four broad-shouldered security men in dark suits, Ethan Stone walked with powerful, measured strides. Beside him was Sarah Jenkins, one of the most formidable high-court litigators in the country, carrying a thick leather briefcase.
Vance blinked, recognizing the face instantly from the covers of Forbes and The Wall Street Journal.
"Ethan Stone?" Vance gasped, taking an involuntary step back. "What... what are you doing here?"
Ethan stopped three feet from Vance. He was half a head taller than the financier, his presence radiating an overwhelming, suffocating aura of power.
"I'm here for my daughter's custody hearing, Vance," Ethan said smoothly.
Vance laughed nervously, though sweat suddenly glistened on his forehead. "Your daughter? What are you talking about? This hearing is for Samantha Montgomery. Her mother owes my firm four million dollars, and—"
"Her mother owes you nothing," Sarah Jenkins interrupted sharply, stepping forward and handing Pendelton a thick stack of legal documents. "Fifteen minutes ago, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York issued an emergency injunction freezing all assets of Aegis Capital due to evidence of systemic loan fraud, forgery, and racketeering."
Pendelton’s face turned white as he scanned the top page. "This... this is a federal freeze order!"
"It gets better," Sarah continued, her voice cutting through the quiet hallway like a razor. "We have submitted DNA verification confirming Mr. Ethan Stone as the biological father of Samantha Montgomery. We have also filed criminal complaints against you, Mr. Vance, for stalking, extortion, and witness intimidation."
Julian Vance’s jaw dropped. He looked at Ethan, his smug arrogance collapsing into blind, desperate panic. "You... you can't do this! You have no right to interfere in my business!"
Ethan stepped closer, leaning down until his eyes were inches from Vance’s pale face.
"I bought your debt at eight o'clock this morning, Vance," Ethan whispered, his voice dark with absolute promise. "As of twelve o'clock, Aegis Capital is bankrupt. Your house in Greenwich is being seized by the marshal at three o'clock. Your cars are being towed. And by five o'clock, federal agents will execute an arrest warrant for wire fraud."
Vance’s knees buckled. He grabbed the marble wall to keep from falling. "Why... why are you doing this to me?!"
May you like
Ethan looked down at him with pure, unadulterated contempt.
"Because you made my daughter cry," Ethan said softly. "And because you made her mother feel like she had no reason to live. Now, get out of my sight before I decide to buy the prison you're going to and make your stay exceptionally uncomfortable."
