Chapter 4: The Eviction of the Parasite

By 11:45 p.m., the grand mansion on Bellevue Hill looked less like an elite residence and more like a corporate liquidation site.

Three black SUVs belonging to Vance Corporate Security were parked in the circular driveway, their engines idling quietly in the midnight mist. Marcus, my father’s chief legal counsel, stood in the center of the foyer with a tablet in hand, methodically checking off items as two security officers watched Victoria and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Chloe, drag their designer suitcases down the grand staircase.

Chloe was crying hysterically, her expensive makeup running down her face. "Mom, where are we going? My friends are supposed to pick me up here tomorrow! We can't stay at a motel!"

"Be quiet, Chloe!" Victoria snapped, her voice trembling with a mixture of rage and humiliation. She looked toward the upper gallery where Richard stood, his arm wrapped tightly around Lily’s shoulders. Lily was now wearing a warm cashmere sweater and jeans, her face washed, her small hand clutching a old teddy bear that had belonged to her late mother.

"You think you’ve won, Richard?" Victoria yelled up at the balcony, her upper class composure completely shattered. "The prenuptial agreement guarantees me five million dollars in the event of a divorce! I will take you to every tabloid in New York! I will tell them how you abandoned your wife and stepdaughter in the middle of the night!"

Marcus didn't look up from his tablet, but a cold, professional smile touched his lips. "Mrs. Vance, I suggest you read Section 4, Paragraph B of that prenuptial agreement before you contact the press."

Victoria froze, her hand tightening on the handle of her Louis Vuitton suitcase. "What are you talking about?"

"The lifestyle and behavioral clause," Marcus explained, his voice echoing clearly through the empty foyer. "It explicitly states that any act of moral turpitude, criminal negligence, or abuse directed toward Richard’s biological child invalidates the financial payout entirely. Ten minutes ago, the security team recovered the internal surveillance footage from the kitchen and the pantry servers."

Marcus tapped the screen of his tablet, playing a brief clip of audio that filled the room. It was Victoria’s voice from three weeks prior, sharp and cruel: "If you tell your father about the bruises, Lily, I will make sure he leaves you in that boarding school in Switzerland and never comes back. You are nothing but a servant in this house now."

Victoria’s knees buckled. She had forgotten that while she had ordered the maids to disable the visible cameras in the living quarters, the master security system was hardwired into the house’s structural frame—a system managed entirely by Richard's firm.

"The evidence has already been forwarded to the District Attorney's office," Marcus said, gesturing toward the front door. "You aren't getting five million dollars, Victoria. You are getting an arraignment hearing for child endangerment and criminal coercion. Now, please vacate the premises."
