Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Three months later, the bitter chill of the Chicago winter had finally broken, replaced by the bright, hopeful warmth of a spring morning that washed golden light across the manicured lawns of my estate.

The grand dining room was filled with the soft sound of laughter—a sound that hadn't echoed through these marble halls in twelve years.

Elena looked up from her plate, catching my eye, and waved enthusiastically with a sticky fork.

"Uncle Vince! Come sit with us!" she called out brightly.

I smiled—a true, unburdened smile—and walked over to join my family at the table. For the first time in my life, the empire I ruled mattered far less than the precious little life I had finally managed to save.
