Chapter 6 - The Storm at the Estate

Two weeks passed. The shift in the Kensington household was palpable. Emily’s role had officially changed; she was no longer part of the cleaning staff, having transitioned into a full-time private caregiver for Henry, though Adrian insisted she sit with him at meals whenever she was in the main house.

However, the peace was temporary.

On a rainy Tuesday afternoon while Adrian was at the corporate headquarters presiding over an urgent board meeting, a sleek black town car pulled into the estate driveway.

Eleanor stepped out, accompanied by Mr. Vance, the head of the Kensington legal trust, and two private security officers.

Inside the nursery, Emily was helping Henry build a castle out of wooden blocks. The door opened abruptly, and Eleanor walked in, her face set like stone.

“Miss Vance,” Eleanor said sharply. “Pack your things.”

Emily stood up immediately, placing herself smoothly between Henry and the intruders. “Mrs. Kensington? What is going on?”

“You are being relieved of your duties immediately,” Eleanor said, pulling an envelope from her leather purse. “This contains a cashier’s check for fifty thousand dollars. It is more than five times your annual salary. A car is waiting outside to take you to the airport. You will leave the city today and you will not contact my son or grandson again.”

Henry, sensing the tension, scrambled up and hid behind Emily’s legs, clinging tightly to her skirt.

“I take orders from Mr. Kensington, not you,” Emily replied firmly, her voice steady despite the rapid pounding of her heart. “I will not leave Henry.”

“Mr. Kensington does not own this property outright; it is held under the family trust, which I control as trustee until Henry turns twenty-one,” Eleanor stated coldly. “Under Section 4 of the estate management code, I have full authority to remove any personnel deemed a disruption to the beneficiary’s wellbeing.”

She gestured to the security guards behind her. “Escort Miss Vance off the premises. If she resists, call the police and file charges for trespassing.”

“You can’t do this!” Emily cried as one of the guards stepped forward, his expression reluctant but professional.

“Don't touch her!” a small, fierce voice shouted.

Henry stepped out from behind Emily, his tiny fists clenched, his face red with sudden rage. He stomped his little foot and threw a wooden block directly at the guard’s knee. “Go away! Bad grandmother! Go away!”

captured by the toddler’s sudden defense, the guard stopped in his tracks, looking thoroughly embarrassed.

At that exact moment, the grand doors of the main entrance downstairs slammed open with a violent crash.

Heavy, furious footsteps echoed up the central staircase.

Adrian burst into the nursery, his tie loosened, his jacket missing, his eyes blazing with absolute fury. Sterling had called his private line the moment Eleanor’s car entered the gates.

“Get your hands off her,” Adrian commanded, his voice so terrifyingly quiet that both security guards immediately backed out into the hallway.

Eleanor turned, her eyes snapping shut for a second before she regained her composure. “Adrian, this is for the good of this family. She is destroying the structure of this home.”

Adrian walked directly up to his mother, stopping inches away. The power dynamic in the room shifted instantly.

“You have crossed a line, Mother,” Adrian said, his voice laced with venom. “You came into my home, threatened the woman who protects my child, and terrified my son.”

“I am trying to save you from a catastrophic mistake!” Eleanor yelled, dropping her composed facade. “She is a nobody! A maid!”

“She is the woman I love!” Adrian shouted back, his voice resounding through the high ceilings of the estate.

The room fell completely silent.

Emily gasped softly, her hand flying to her mouth, her eyes wide as she looked at Adrian’s back.

Adrian turned his head slightly, meeting Emily’s stunned gaze for a fraction of a second, confirming the truth of his words with absolute clarity. Then he turned back to his mother.

“Effective immediately, I am stepping down as trustee of the family funds,” Adrian said coldly. “I have enough personal wealth from my own tech acquisitions to buy this estate ten times over. Tomorrow, my legal team will file papers to purchase this house out of the trust entirely.”

He stepped aside and pointed toward the nursery door.

“Get out of my house, Eleanor. And do not return until you are ready to treat Emily with the respect she deserves as the future lady of this home.”

Eleanor stared at her son, her face drained of all color. For the first time in her life, she realized she had lost completely. She looked at Henry, who was still holding Emily’s hand tightly, staring at her with wide, mistrustful eyes.

Without saying another word, Eleanor turned around and walked out of the nursery, her legal team and security guards trailing silently behind her.
