Chapter 10 - The Promises We Keep

One year later, early summer returned to the Kensington estate.
The grand ballroom, once reserved for silent, rigid corporate dinners, was filled with light, music, and fresh white roses. High overhead, the crystal chandelier reflected hundreds of soft glowing lights onto the dancing crowd below.
The room was filled with friends, family, and staff—all gathered together without division or distinction. Sterling stood near the cake table, smiling broadly as he raised a toast with the head chef. Lady Margaret was dancing enthusiastically with an elderly board member, and Eleanor sat at a front table, happily holding a sleeping eight-month-old baby girl—Adrian and Emily’s newborn daughter, Clara.
In the center of the dance floor, Adrian held Emily close.
Emily looked breathtaking in a simple, flowing white lace wedding gown. Her hair was styled in soft waves with small jasmine flowers woven through the strands. Around her neck hung a simple silver medallion—a gift from Adrian containing a miniature portrait of Henry and baby Clara.
“Are you happy, Mrs. Kensington?” Adrian whispered into her ear as they swayed to the slow, romantic rhythm of the orchestra.
Emily rested her cheek against his shoulder, her hand resting over his heart. “I didn't think it was possible to be this happy, Adrian. A few years ago, I was sweeping floors and wondering if I’d ever find a place where I truly belonged.”
“You belong right here,” Adrian said softly, pulling her closer. “With me. With our children.”
Three-year-old Henry, dressed in a tiny navy tuxedo that matched his father’s, came trotting onto the dance floor, clutching a small piece of wedding cake in his hand. He tugged gently on the hem of Emily’s lace dress.
“Mommy! Daddy! Look!” Henry giggled, holding up his frosting-covered fingers.
Emily laughed softly, dropping down onto one knee despite her white dress, wiping the sweet blue frosting from his cheek with her finger, just as she had done with peach juice two years ago under the very same chandelier.
Adrian crouched down beside them, pulling both of them into his arms.
“He chose well that night,” Adrian whispered, looking into Emily’s bright, beautiful eyes.

“He didn't choose a maid or a lady,” Emily replied softly, leaning in to kiss his lips warmly. “He just chose love.”
Under the glowing lights of the grand mansion, surrounded by the warmth of a restored family and the laughter of their children, the billionaire and his wife looked toward a future filled with endless light, quiet peace, and an enduring, unconditional love.
