The morning after my son’s funeral, an airport worker called me: “Your son checked in for a flight at 5 am and left a bag with your name on it.” I drove there, both hands trembling on the steering wheel. Inside the bag were: a passport, 20,000 dollars in cash, and a voice recorder. I pressed play. And when the first words rang out, my daughter-in-law suddenly started crying behind me.
