Chapter 4 - The Quiet Blossom of Spring

Six months passed, and the halls of Sterling Manor underwent a profound transformation.

The cold, intimidating marble corridors, once echoing only with the cl footsteps of security guards and the fake laughter of socialites, now resonated with the soft, joyful patter of running feet and the occasional burst of genuine laughter from the kitchens.

Spring had arrived in the Pacific Northwest, painting the estate’s sprawling botanical gardens in vibrant shades of pink, yellow, and emerald green.

Harrison Sterling sat at the edge of the stone patio, reviewing a quarterly logistics report on his tablet, though his attention was frequently drawn toward the manicured lawn just a few yards away.

Harrison looked up to see Clara standing there, holding a silver tray with a steaming porcelain cup of black coffee and a small glass of fresh orange juice.

“Afternoon check, Mr. Sterling,” Clara smiled gently, setting the tray down. “And before you ask—yes, I brewed the coffee myself, I ground the beans from a sealed bag, and I stood over the counter the entire time watching it drip.”

Harrison chuckled, setting his tablet aside and picking up the coffee cup. He took a slow, appreciative sip.

“You know, Clara, at this rate, I’m never going to trust any kitchen staff that doesn't pass a multi-agency background check and a personal interview with a six-year-old,” Harrison joked, his dark eyes crinkling at the corners.

Clara smiled warmly, folding her hands in front of her apron. “Lily has very high standards, sir. She takes her position as chief security consultant extremely
