Chapter 6 - The Legacy of the Moretti Family

Six months later.

The summer sun beamed down over the rolling green lawns of the Moretti estate, turning the long driveway into a corridor of golden light. The old mahogany doors of the main house were wide open, letting the warm ocean breeze sweep through the grand marble hallway.

In the rear garden, near the marble fountain that had stood silent for twenty years, the air was filled with laughter.

A large wooden patio table was set with white linens, fresh silver, bowls of sweet cherries, and a massive homemade strawberry cake bearing four brightly burning candles.

Bernie stood near the barbecue grill in a crisp white apron, flipping skewers of grilled chicken with a satisfied smile, while Marco Bellini sat on a wooden bench nearby, cleaning a pair of dark sunglasses, his tactical shoulder holster entirely absent.

Running across the lush green grass, wearing a small denim jumpsuit and a bright yellow party hat, was Noah. He was chasing a six-month-old Golden Retriever puppy, his loud, triumphant giggles echoing across the estate grounds.

"Slow down, Noah!" Clara called out from the terrace, laughing as she held a glass of iced lemonade. She wore a simple, elegant floral sundress, her dark hair glowing in the summer light, her face radiant, healthy, and entirely free of the shadows that had once consumed her.

Walking up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin softly against her shoulder, was Aleandro.

He wore a light linen shirt, his silver-streaked hair slightly tousled by the warm wind. The terrifying, cold mob boss who had once ruled New York through fear was nowhere to be seen; in his place stood a man who had found his purpose, his peace, and his true strength.

"He's going to wear that dog out before we even cut the cake," Aleandro murmured into her ear, kissing the soft skin of her neck.

Clara leaned back against his broad chest, placing her hands over his. "He's happy, Aleandro. For the first time in his life, he isn't afraid of loud noises."

"Neither are you," Aleandro noted gently.

"Because I have you," Clara whispered, turning her head to kiss his cheek.

Down in the garden, Noah caught the puppy, tumbling into a soft heap of green grass, laughing hysterically. He looked up toward the terrace, seeing his mother and father standing together in the warm sunlight.

"Daddy! Mommy! Come look! The dog found a butterfly!" Noah yelled at the top of his lungs, waving his small hand frantically.

Aleandro froze for a fraction of a second.

It was the first time Noah had called him Daddy.

Clara looked up at Aleandro, her eyes filled with tears of pure, unfiltered happiness.

Aleandro took a deep breath, his chest swelling with a feeling so vast and profound that it seemed to light up every dark corner of his soul. He held Clara’s hand tightly, and together they walked down the stone steps of the terrace into the sun-drenched garden.

Aleandro knelt down in the soft grass beside his son, wrapping his arms around both Noah and Clara, pulling them close as the warm summer wind rustled the leaves of the old oak trees above.

"I see it, Noah," Aleandro said softly, his voice thick with emotion as he kissed his son's forehead and held his family tight against his heart. "I see it."

The long winter was finally over, and for the Moretti family, the sun would never set again.
