Chapter 5 - A New Beginning

Six months later.
The morning sun bathed the sprawling, iron-gated Moretti Estate in warm, golden light. The dark, somber atmosphere that had once hung over the estate was completely gone, replaced by the soft sounds of classical music, ocean breezes, and a baby’s joyful cooing.
On the sunlit terrace overlooking the gardens, Nora sat in a comfortable wicker chair, feeding little Leo his morning bottle. She wore a soft cream knit sweater, her hair glowing in the morning light.
Over the last six months, her life had transformed entirely. After the scandal at Kingsbridge Memorial led to the arrest of Dr. Holt and the complete overhaul of the hospital's board, Nora had resigned from her staff position.
Sandro had immediately hired her as Leo’s private medical director and personal guardian, offering her a place at the estate.
The heavy glass doors opened behind her.
Sandro walked out onto the terrace. He looked entirely different from the shattered, haunted man she had met in the consultation room. He was clean-shaven, healthy, wearing a relaxed dark blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, carrying two cups of fresh coffee.
He set the cups down and walked over, kneeling beside Nora’s chair.
Leo dropped his bottle, gurgling happily, and reached both his tiny hands toward his father. Sandro chuckled softly, lifting his son into his arms and kissing his forehead.
"He gained another half-pound this week," Nora smiled, watching them with a warm, radiant expression. "His milestones are perfectly on track."
"That's because he has the best doctor in the world looking after him," Sandro said, looking over at Nora with a warmth in his dark eyes that made her heart flutter.
Sandro placed Leo gently into a plush bassinet beside the table and stepped closer to Nora, pulling a small velvet box from his pocket.
Nora’s breath hitched. "Sandro..."
"Six months ago, I was a man living in darkness, waiting for my life to end," Sandro said softly, taking both of Nora’s hands in his large, warm grip. "You didn't just save my son's life, Nora. You brought light back into this house. You gave me a reason to live, to love, and to build a future again."
He opened the velvet box, revealing a breathtaking, ethically sourced diamond ring that caught the morning light like a star.
"I don't want you to just be Leo's doctor or his guardian, Nora," Sandro whispered, his voice filled with profound sincerity and love. "I want you to be my wife. I want us to be a family."
Tears of pure, unadulterated joy filled Nora’s eyes. She looked at the man who had protected her, honored her, and cherished her every single day since that fateful night.
"Yes," Nora whispered, stepping into his arms. "Yes, Sandro. Absolutely."
